After all, articles about the Ferrari Daytona don't mention its appearance in Miami Vice as evidence of its significance.

That was a fake one....apparently Ferrari were so disturbed by it they gave them the Testerossa they had in the later episodes.

Yup,first one was a vette

Okay, Day-faux-na was a bad example.... shoulda used the white Testarossa. That was real, wasn't it? :D

About the 2000GT's in the Bond movie. From the Toyota sources I have, there were two convertibles made for the movie. One is in the museum in Japan, and the other was awaiting restoration or in the process or restoration in Toyota's collection.

When I was in Japan last year I visited with several 2000GT owners that are, "in the know," and I was told that the second car was in the hands of a private owner awaiting restoration. Since both cars were to have been destroyed after the movie, it's always been a bit of an issue that they still existed. In other words, the person that was in charge of disposing of them would be in trouble. Toyota eventually got one car back, but the other remained lost in mystery. Legal issues over the second car are clearing up, and last I heard, public knowledge of it's existance would be forthcoming (that was a year ago). I'm not sure if Toyota has finally acquired the car, but it may be a possiblity.

There is at leat one Toyota Cavalier (ex japan import) in Australia. Somebody tried to trade it in at Phil Gilbert Toyota in Sydney a few years back. The parts manager told me about it. Nobody had a clue what it was at the time.

Every single Toyota Related forum in the universe has this thread...

Could the Answer be: the convertible TA64. TA64 Celica Turbo with the 4TGTE engine are pretty rare, add in the 'vert top and you get 1 of 1.

Ah the cavalier, I've worked on them. Shitty cars, really shitty but they sold thousands of them. Oddly enough a Sunfire GT was almost my first car. They could be kept nice but it was alot of work.

I want to get one of those badges though and carry it with me. Then whenever someone start arguing with me that I should "buy American" I will just whip that out and tell them to shut up.

Knew about them, Toyota also had some deals with Holden that resulted in oddly badged cars...

Yep

Rebadge = Original

Holden Apollo = Toyota Camry
Holden Nova = Toyota Corolla
Holden Drover = Suzuki Sierra/Samurai
Holden Barina = Suzuki Swift

But it happened the other way as well:
Toyota Lexcen = Holden Commodore

Ford were also doing the same thing:
Ford Laser = Mazda 323 hatch
Ford Meteor = Mazda 323 Sedan
Ford Telstar = Mazda 626
Ford Econovan = Mazda E series van.
Ford Courier = Mazda B series ute (still sold today!).
Ford Maverick = Nissan Patrol

While in the Nissan Camp:
Nissan Ute (how imaginative!) = Ford Falcon Ute.

Very strange drugs in the 80's!
