so just a little update haha..

pulled 4G63 out

Image

and at this point I went totally nuts and decided to scrap my plans of going DOHC 4G63...

but what engine so I replace it with?

hrmm.. well I acquired these two engines:

6G72 3.0L V6 MIVEC from an F36A Diamante 30M
Image

and another 6G72 3.0L V6 twin turbo from a GTO/3000GT
Image

at this stage the plan is to use the entire MIVEC motor with turbos bolted on. The bottom end of both engines is more or less the same with a few small differences, however the compression ratio is a bit higher on the MIVEC engine.

so in the hole it goes!

Image

it bolted up fine using Pajero (Montero) mounts. Sump needs to be modified somewhat to clear the crossmember, and I need a shorter clutch master cylinder (AE86 one looks like it will fit the bill) and not so deep brake booster. Custom exhaust manifolds will need to be made but there does seem to be enough room for a turbo down each side of the bank:

Image

so that's about as far as I'm up to. My next challenge is finding a manual gearbox for it, I have a Pajero 4x4 V6 gearbox arriving next week which I'll at least be robbing the bellhousing from. I am going to see if I can attach the tail housing (minus transfer case) from a 2WD Triton in order to convert to 2WD, but I still feel the box will be quite 'agricultural' for what I want - it seems quite heavy being a cast iron casing and the ratios probably wont be all that ideal.

Let me know your comments!

damn man, that will be one hell of a project. You may want to talk to bill ihcher from project zero go. I'd already mentioned it would be nice to get a bell housing made for a 6g72. He can make you one for any tranny you want.

What are you doing with the 63?

wow I didn't realise Eterna was available in the Mark 1 shape, thought it was Mark 2 only.

Although that one is called the Galant-Eterna, mine is simply an Eterna /\ (/\ being Lambda symbol)

so I've made absolutely no progress for almost 12 months!

so in the meantime, as I miss driving it, I bought another!

this time it's an '82 Galant GT, same A164A turbo model except being a GT (ie lightweight less optioned version) it doesn't have power steering, or electric windows the Eterna does, but it does have a rear wiper and VELNAS, two options which weren't available in 1980 for the Eterna to have.

As it was at the other end of the country, I flew down there and spent a week driving it all the way back up.

it has a bit of damage to the front bumper and lower valance

interior, not as nice as the Eterna GSR interior

VELNAS

oh yeah I even used it to move my two parts cars to the scrap metal dealer, and my Eterna to its new home. quite a workhorse it is

I love your Galants! seeing your yellow car come together was a big inspiration for me...knowing the potential (and how good the SSR mesh look on 'em!) the 'Eterna' is HOT. I need that rear lip/wing for my sapporo!! have you seen any other galants with that same lip over there?...and if so, please let me know if you could possibly source one to sell to me! thanks!

Maybe I should make another thread for the GT?

Anyway speaking of the GT, I got a little carried away bidding on this:

Image

Image

A Cyclone DASH 3x2 engine from an E15A FWD Galant/Eterna. Because this engine is narrowblock I can't use it directly in place of the wideblock engine I'm running, so instead I will strip down both engines and make one engine out of the two using the wideblock bottom end with new DASH pistons, rings, bearings and gaskets etc with the DASH head and intake manifold, and use my existing exhaust manifold to perhaps mount an EvoIII TD05 16G turbo.
