Toyota has renewed it's focus towards all corporate motorsport activities. Officially the focus now is all on Racing. The new initiative is now simply called- Toyota Racing.

This signifies that all activities worldwide come under closer control of Toyota Japan.

Kind of surprising seeing as the other companies are pulling out of motor sports all together. Cool to see Toyota sticking with it.

I'm curious as to where you read or heard this, as I've not seen it on any official Toyota sites... :?

It was decided more than 2 months ago....

just wait for all the "Toyota Motorsport" logos disappear.....

actually Toyota has cut their Motorsport budgets bigtime, and this is like consolidating various departments (internationally) including the US

an unfortunate result is that there will be no more Race of Champions for Monterey Speedweek

I know Toyota is making cutbacks in a lot of places, including motorsports, but I'm still curious as to the exact source of your info. I'm not saying you're right or wrong, but without a quotable source it's just hearsay.

As for the Race of Champions - are you referring to the Toyota Race of Legends which took place in 2007 and 2008 at the Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races? If so, in 2006 Toyota signed up for a 3 year contract with Laguna Seca as the Presenting Sponsor of the Monterey Historics, and that ended in 2008. Toyota did not have plans to sponsor the 2009 or beyond seasons.

he himself could be the source or he could know an insider, so he may not wish to divulge his or his sources's identity

better than a quote.....
watch the Grand Prix in your neighborhood this weekend!

as you know Toyota does not make a habit of announcing things straightout- specially in relation to Motorsports...Racing

the 2009 Race of Legends was on the table for this year, a budget was in the works to do it- officially cancelled just 2 months ago

a shoestring budget was proposed but still not approved

True, but in order to clarify things he could mention something in that regard and still remain annonymous

Sorry if I sound anal in this regard, but it bugs the crap out of me when people talk about stuff but they can't or won't back themselves up with proof. I could start all sorts of rumors that way...

I'm all for news from an inside source, but here's a guy with 4 posts total and we have no idea who he is or how he may be privie to such info. I'm not trying to start a rant, but I would like to be able to know more about this...

 No anxiety here, I just like to get certain facts out in the open. Personally I'm not all that interested in Toyota Motorsports, other than I like to collect certain toys that might be based on some cars.

I'm not judging by the number of posts, just stating the obvious. Just a simple introduction (like, "hi, I work at Toyota and have some inside info," ...if such is even the case) at the beggining of this thread would have kept me from even inquiring.

BTW, you're email address isn't visible to us, so we still don't have a clue. For all we know, you could be a mole  (noun; Etymology: Middle English; akin to Middle Low German mol; Date: 14th century: a spy (as a double agent) who establishes a cover long before beginning espionage ; broadly : one within an organization who passes on information)

Mike

I tried to call you yesterday, twice. Once at 2 and after 4, you have left.
I am sure you have done due diligence and now know what I am talking about.

So all "Toyota Motorsport" labeled goods are now memorabilia, right up your alley! It now passes and soon will be Nostalgic....

Okay, now I KNOW who it is... ~ Let's just say he's got a long time affiliation with Toyota Motorsports, err, or is it Racing...?

More poking around has lead me to actually realize that in the US, they have been going by the moniker of Toyota Racing for some time now - at least a year if I recall. But I'm still curious to see if the name is changed on an international basis...

Toyota Motorsport until mid-March 2009 was the official program title used by TOYOTA. Your reference as to seeing TOYOTA Racing previously was not on ANY official TOYOTA site. Now almost all official TOYOTA sites refer to motorsport activities as TOYOTA Racing.

There were several discussions prior to changing the title: from the expenses involved to switching all the related PR materials; to acceptance by the different markets....

Similar story on how TRD USA and TRD Japan were initially not allowed to call themselves TOYOTA RACING DEVELOPMENT, but instead TRD Racing Development, until the early 90's....

interesting info, thanks for keeping up on this and posting it here. would hate to see toyota pull out of any kind of "racing"

is it true that they will be pulling out of nascar? i think they can do with out that.

Does this mean TRD japan, TRD usa, and TTE will merge?

The 3 main outfits that are supported by Toyota Japan remain: TRD Japan (Toyota Technocraft), TRD USA (TMS USA), and Toyota F1 (Toyota GMBH). Various Toyota National Distributors have theit own National Racing Programs. The various Lexus programs are under the National Distributors. The Scion USA progtam is under Toyota USA.
