So my Boss gave me his fathers 1987 300ZX as a wedding gift. he knows nothing about cars and didnt really know what to do with it. At first i figure its a cop-out and I am gonna get this piece of shit that i now have to deal with but i saw it for the first time yesterday. 100k miles, california car, no rust, 5Spd, T-tops, leather interior, BBS Wheels, non-turbo (can't win em all). This car is absolutely perfect.

I dont know much about Nissans, I've always been a mitsu guy, but people are telling me this car is worth $3000-$4500 in this good condition. I am trying to decide if i want to sell it of keep it. Any input???

Keep her! Z31's are one the most looked over Z cars and they can be made to look really nice... you already have nice wheels on her... just needs a drop!

Well its a California car...Its only been in New York for about a month now. Im sure I will drive it for a while and see how I like it. Its so friggin clean I am almost afraid to mess it up. If I decide to sell it you will all be the first to know!

I know it seems rude, but we were originally going to buy this car from the guy who gave it to us. He was aware we would probably drive it for a while then sell it, (we are saving to buy a house) so I wont feel so bad if I do sell it. I had no idea it was this nice tho so we might keep it... we'll see...

but still its a wedding gift. I would sell the car if someone gave me a car for no reason but i wouldnt if he intentionally gave me as a gift... For me its disrespectful. Then again, its your call.... just my way of seeing things. No hard feelings thou... :)

plus... its a nice car for cruising. A new set of wide work 03 15's and fender flares, souped up engine and exhaust, and off u go with wind blowing ur hair.... aaaaaahhhhhh, what a feeling that would be.... :D

AWESOME DEAL! Yes the Z31 is the black sheep of the Z's and it's a damn shame. They're great cars with awesome looks and fun power. I bought my 89 Z31 april of 2006, it also "was" non turbo, and in the same perfect condition as yours, but had 160K miles. It was located in Neptune NJ on ebay, bids went up to $3000. I was the lucky one to get that last attack bid in. So you sir got a good deal! :tu: . The N/A VG30E is a strong motor with 9.0:1 compression. They can handle a stock turbo with no issues if you do it right. I actually found a 88 turbo engine in FL. Had it shipped to my door for $900. So hold on to that bad girl and have some Grand Touring fun with her.
NOW here is some incentive to keep her...

The non-turbo's actually had a VG30E and the the Turbo's had a VG30ET...

In Japan the Z31's got an early version of a VG30DE and it was known as the 300ZR if I remember correctly. They also got the infamous 200ZR that came with the RB20DET... of course we only got the 300ZX version's which came with VG30E(T).

The VG30DE didn't show up State-side until the Z32...

Lol of course, typing the "D" is a force of habit. There was also a VG20E and ET. The VG20ET came in the 200ZG, strange.

Thanks for all the info guys, I am excited to get this car on the road. My buddy is trying to talk me into an 2.5 skyline motor swap. I think i leave it the way it is for now, except maybe lowering it. One RWD trubo project is enough for now...
BTW i was told this 3.0 V6 is a clearance motor, is that true?? Im used to mitsu's and evrything they make is interference...just curious.
