some people get cut up when old cars get molested. i reckon if you are going to modify a car you either start with one in the best condition available or with a beater depending on your skills and budget and in no way should be made to feel guilty about hacking up an old classic if necessary.

I know some people think this sort of thing should'nt be done to a rare classic toyota, But it I hadnt bought this car, and the shape it was in, It would have gone to the crushers within a couple years.

If my Celica had made it back to Detroit, I likely would have began participating in some drift events in Flint. I know most of the local drift guys, been going to the events for years. Would love to participate someday, even if I suck completely.

Thanks guys!
When I started fixing this car up I had no idea about drifting.
I knew I liked going sideways on the gravel, wanted to make a rally car out of it. But decided rally is too expensive, with trucks and trailers, intercoms, and terra trips, fire suits, ect.
Then I met some guys while getting parts at the junk yard.
Hooked, thats about it.
The mango has been in a steady progression since then, drift, tweak, drift, break, upgrade, drift, lots of time spent wrenching. It has become rather famous in out local drift scene, being the oldest, most modded car at the track. And I havent even touched the engine yet!! Still 2tc stock bottom, 40mm webers.

I like the quote
"Anyone can restore a classic car. It takes a real man to cut one up."

Wow, those pictures are absolutely fantastic - especially the first one! Would you happen to have the highres version on hand? It'd absolutely be my new wallpaper.

I took almost a whole year to get this thing in and running, lots of little stuff to make the giant BEAMS engine fit in the little te27 engine bay.
Now its running and tunned, and crazy fast.

I need to get a truck and trailer now, and get to some drift events next year!
