Decided im not facking with the stock 22re computer and harness because im going to have to cut it to shreds. Megasquirt is a much better option and it will let me tune the car as well as keep the engine bay mega clean which I consider very important. Ive helped my friend tune his turbo volvo 242 on MS1.3 and its pretty straightforward. Also, I didnt powder coat and take all that time making everything look sexy just to ruin it with wires.

http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/megasquirti-efi-system-smd-pcb357-black-case-p-172.html

Im sure some other people are running megasquirt on JNC but I havent seen it in the yota thread. Any success stories?

Progress!

Here are a few pics of the wiring. Megasquirt really is the way to go for standalone engine management because of its simplicity. I have MS1 with the v3.57 board and MS harness. A Bosch 4.2LSU O2 sensor with AEM UEGO AFR gauge is being used for tuning. Everything is connected and the car is talking to the computer at this point. So now I have to get the cooling system all set up which shouldnt be hard or time consuming. Im going to use my old rad to start with, then drive it to somewhere and have a custom aluminum one made because ballin'.

Front end most of the way back on. Wires loomed. Running decent but needs a fair amount of tuning. Couple more days of work to drive it. But now, we snowboard!

Its officially on the road now. Had to re-align the front end because of all the new stuff but steers good and straight now. Got off to a slow start with megasquirt but have it running pretty well now. Pulls like hell through all gears!

Rockin' it hoodless for a little while longer. Changed the intake tube a bit to make room for a thicker aluminum rad in the near future.

P.S.
The coolant on the floor is the result of me spilling it onto the catch tray under the rad.

What a cool project!

White walls on steelies are aces. Good choice there.

Great work on that engine and Megasquirt. I started MS but bailed out because electritional things are too complicated for my simple brain.

Appreciate it. The VAST ignition system was the only thing that wasnt 100% straightforward. Finding the pinouts for some of the sensors took a fair amount of google searching as well but all are available. DIYAUTOTUNE has a pretty good instructional page on what settings to start with on the 22re which made getting it running way more simple.

Gauge panel to replace the non-working radio in the middle of the dash(really shitty pic). VDO mech. oil pressure gauge and VDO clock on the way to keep my AFR gauge company in the panel. Will be powder coated black to match the rest of the dash. Fits like a glove :tu:

Header and downtube ceramic coating. This is before polishing so you can see what a PITA shiny ceramic headers are.

Car makes no noise now when things are dropped in it. Still needs a few wrinkles worked out up front as well as some more coverage but its much nicer than it was.

Some padding

Some carpet

Preesh guys. Got the carpet and padding off of ebay. EZFLEX cut-pile carpet and 40oz, 1/2", jute padding. Wish I would have bought some more because I need to carpet my shitty looking hatch panels. I also have my header polished now so the engine should be buttoned up soon.

Great! Thanks for the tip. I was thinking I had to spend $200 for a pre-cut carpet.
