Hey everyone,

I'm calling out to all Honda guys and gals to weigh in on a discussion in the Toyota Garage about which car I might want to own next. Link to discussion: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=23746

My RX-7 will be sold soon, and I have the opportunity to buy either a '91 Civic hatch 4-speed, all original with no mods and all of it's original records. The car is in near-perfect condition.

On the other hand, I have a gentleman who would like to trade for his '83 Corolla 4-door auto. It's completely restored and looks absolutely IMMACULATE. (Pics are on the Toyota thread)

Either way, I know I'll be getting a stellar car, but my indecisiveness is through the roof on this one so I'm reaching out to the community to give me advice.

RULES: No bashing please. If you would like to bring up a concern about the other car, please balance it with a positive comment. Let's keep everything neutral, I don't want to be known as the guy who incited a huge brand-war on the forum.

Thanks for the help,
Nihonnotekko

Being a Mazhonyota man myself I feel your pain on this decision. Are you just wanting a daily driver or is this going to be your next project car?

I'm looking for a daily driver. Neither car will ever be modified. I've got a soft spot for well maintained stock cars. It's like jumping back to the decade.

That being the case I suppose it's just a matter of transmission preference. Auto, or manual?

Manual all the way. I'm really iffy on going back to an auto. I got a chance to see the Corolla today, and although it looks just as good in person as in the pictures, it just wasn't grabbing me the right way. It's not for me.

...So I suppose that settles it. :tu:

I owned a 1988 Std Civic with the 4 speed. My only complaint is first gear is quite low and allowed for fast initial acceleration, but second is quit tall to go to next. If I ever got another one it would have a 5 speed transmission. That generation did everything better than any later generation I had. The visibility was fantastic. The interior is like the "Tardus" it seems larger than the outside. Really handles in light deep snow. The steering was like power steering and you could really feel the road conditions.

The (in my books) Honda is the drivers car. The Toyota is the more classic car of the 2. The Toyota is a old peoples car. It would suit me just fine  The Honda is more a boy racer..... :D
I owned both and both were great cars. Can't really compare the 2.
The Honda needs some period correct rims though....

Cheers
