Hey guys, I've been spending a lot of time checking out the build over on 1stgencivic forums. And I started doing a little parts hunting, which is my way lol.

Any how. I started digging up some really great stuff, basically I had all of the components in front of me for a really killer, period correct hot hatch build. So I thought to myself, with the nature of the cars we love, when it's sitting in front of you just go for it as there's never any garuntee that you'll have that chance, or anything close to it again.

So I bought some stuff.

Late model 1979 EB3, automatic block with the factory oil cooler ports on the block.

More updates to come. Thanks for looking!

Update: Sanded down the valve cover and hit it with some VHT Wrinkle Black.

Pulled the head apart and off to check the condition of the Cam. I got this motor as a non running core so I was eager to see if the reason it was pulled out was the Head or the Block.

Head off, Cam out.

The cam was CHEWED UP!

Cleaned the carbon off of the piston tops with a little WD-40 and a brush. And gave the block itself the same treatment.

The block itself is in really great shape. The crank spins nice and smooth with little to no effort. Although there is a bit of a ridge in the cylinder walls, Other then that it's just typical Honda quality. Its sad because when I take my 4K-C Toyota parts and compare them side by side to their Honda competition, It makes me slightly embarrassed of my fervent love of Toyota. My 12A Mazda parts are well on par with the Honda parts though, Funny how the quality of Honda's economy engine is greater than or equal to (Equal in most cases I've seen) Mazda's Flagship performance engine at the time.

Cleaned up the RS Carbs with a little gasoline, WD-40, paintbrush and a toothbrush. They came out pretty well.

Looking good!! :D
My mom drove a bronze '79 Civic Hondamatic back in the mid 90's for a couple of years. It was bought as an ultra cheap 2nd car, but proved to be absolutely awesome - of course.
I sense though that this will be waaay better!

Let's see the actual car too.
What year is it? Which colour??
And what are your plans for it??

No car quite yet. I have enough space in my condo for an engine project right now but nothing else lol. I've got a 1980 RX-7 10th Anniversary Edition taking up my solitary garage spot. But for $600 I couldn't pass that up either

I've located a pretty rust free 1200 in San Antonio though. And I'm having it shipped here in February. I'm just going to build a bad ass little period correct hot hatch. And then my hope is to find a JNC'r that wants to buy it. :D

HaHa... Building an engine without having the car to put it in afterwards.
Now that's funny...

Engine build in the apartment- gotta love it. You sound like me in college. I built a type 2 racing VW motor in my dorm room. And I secretly stashed my mint honda CB450 in there when no one was looking. Let me know what you are doing in terms of mods for the engine. I have a clean slate 1600 (correction 1200 eb2) that I need to trick out for my wife.

It's going to be a proper street car build, stage2 or 3 cam from Jeff at Colt Cams, custom cam oiler for longevity, Pinto 2 liter springs for high revs.

The main hurtle has been the RS carbs so far, my boots are shot so I've been trying to source either D15B or ET2/A18A boots for replacements.

Do you have a Canadian spec EL? I didn't know we got anything bigger then the 1.5 for civics or anything smaller than 1.8 for the Accord/Preludes.

Are you planning on keeping the stock 1.2? If not I would be glad to take it off your hands for a friendly price.

I plan to use the 1.2. The non running one I take out will probably be built up and put back in. Ill keep a lookout for a complete engine around here and let you know if I see any. I remember seeing them in the parts yards every once in a while.

If you could, keep a sharp eye out for any EB3's. It's the last model of 1.2 and the valves are pretty dang big for such a small 4. Mine has a wee scratch in the cam journal and I just don't feel safe with it. My machine shop says he can't do anything about it except rub in a wee bit of valve lapping compound to try and de-burr it.

I digress though
A good spare EB3 head would be awesome if you get a chance. 1200's in general are just rare as hens teeth in Colorado for some reason. Tons of CVCC's, but no 1200's.

Come to think of it, if you could find me a local 1200 for sale that could drive back to Colorado. That would be even better!

Thanks Bob, they're a really cool piece of kit. Finding replacement parts is a real bear though.

If I can get one for less then $100US including shipping then I'll happily take one off your hands. If not Jeff at Colt Cams has a spare he's been saving for me.

Help me find a baseplate/filter housing Mielko!
