Hi all,

I have 78 MX32 with carbie, it has only 55K miles on it. It was running fine then i didnt drove it for few months. It still starts but doesnt want to stay on. Is there anyone in Houston familiar with 4M engine that can help me out. If you know anyone please let me know. My friend drove my car to his shop but he is too busy to look at it and I really want this car to be up and running.

Thanks you all.

mine idles high all the time, don't drive it enough to work on it. mine had some wiring gremlins, the fuses under the dash were kind of messed up bc of their brackets being old and brittle and not always connecting. if it moved at all, even just hitting a bump or coming to a fast stop, the car would die because of that. there's so little wiring in the carbed car to worry about that if the carb is ruled out it should be easy to trace.

dont need a cressida specialist. carbed cars are simple, any decent mechanic should be able to help you out.

Thanks a lot. I dont have space to keep anymore parts inside the garage. Wife car is priority. I really appreciate it. If ever you come to Houston, please haul at me so we meet for food & drinks.

yeah what was your issue? my 4m is having a bit of splutter action happening.. when cold it doesn't want to stay alive until its fairly warmed up.. it still splutters as you can hear it through the exhaust and also when revs are put down to quick it feels like the engine stalls or doesn't want to propel the vehicle forward.. like to much fuel or air etc.. Any idea on getting a new carby for the old 4m's, rebuild kits or am i looking in the wrong area? Already done so much to it just to get it running.

guy on here with a carbed 4m in his markII wagon bought an aftermarket carb and made it work, not rocket science but there's the perception that there's some black magic involved in getting it to run right... just do your research and make it work!

on the other hand, i'd put the money into a newer engine before i started replacing wear parts on an old one. you never know what's going to fail next. soon enough your driving around on bandaid patchwork or spending the money on an overhaul.

^^^ I agreed with lolumad, I rebuild the car, cost little over $200 (2 more rebuild kit in stock with that money).
Instead of putting more money right now, I will start saving for 1jz VVTi down the road. Next on the list is coilovers and some wheels.

Sound like you need to rebuilt the carb. I didnt go for weber cause it required a lot of work for A/C. So keeping mine stock for right now. I had the same problem like you but now its running way better than before. Instead of wasting too much money you might look for 2jz non turbo or 1jz vvti options.
