One event that I look forward to every year, is the Datsun Day...usually in November, and organised by an enthusiastic team of folks from the Sydney Datsun Club.

Brother from a (slightly) different mother! ...the Datsun Day is nothing if not eclectic. This 610 wagon had done a charity rally through the bush, hence the patina
Image

A lot of dirt!
Image

The line of cars during the bump-in is always good viewing.
Image

The silver 510 coupe at the head of the queue won best stock 510 I think..
Image

An incredible 29,000km unrestored survivor.
Image

It's a JDM coupe, and was imported into Australia in the early 80s, and used very sparingly since.
Image

Another eye catching 510 was this Hot Wheels inspired ride...maybe Jun Imai should hit up this guy for royalties :)
Image

This 510 one won Trailer Queen...
Image

Incredible attention to detail in the engine bay by local specialist Dural Datsun.
Image

...but very much an ongoing project!
Image

As always, there are always 510s done in what you might describe in the US as a donk style. It's a very specific look, revolving around large diameter wheels from a local brand called Simmons.
Image

A show-quality engine transplant is de-rigeur too, and this style of street car is really from the heyday of the oldschool modding scene here in the early 90s. For some ppl, this style will never fade away.
Image

But there is more and more interest nowadays in a clean, stock looking build...
Image

...and who doesn't like a sleeper :)
Image

One trend I am noticing this year, is that there are fewer people going down the restomod path with a modern turbo engine transplant, and more guys are putting a lot of effort into sanitary period-correct builds.
Image

This car won best 510 interior...
Image

...and best L-series 4 cyl!
Image

Every year, I am noticing more guys building their 510s in what we might call a JDM kyusha style.
Image

The guys really leading the charge on JDM style are the Sunny guys. Here's Nathan Petta's coupe, which won best JDM
Image

But to be honest, it's pretty much illegal here to rock a Sunny and not have it slammed on vintage JDM wheels

And the little A series still gets some love...
Image

Image

And sometimes...A LOT Of love!
Image

Image

The Sunny Trucks and coupes are quite desireable nowadays...especially the coupes, which have quite a heritage in club level racing here. Their light weight meant that they were very popular giant killers on the road courses, even as recently as the late 90s.
Image

...but the older 1000s are still pretty rare. Nice to done up one though
Image

And as always, the 120Y enthusiasts are always out in decent numbers.
Image

Interesting lace paint effect
Image

Interestingly, first prize in the raffle was this late 70s Stanza! Kindly donated by parts supplier SSS Automotive. I didn't win it, so JNC is spared another long-winded build thread :)
Image

810s...always popular here.
Image

Fellow JNCer Pete walked away with three trophies for his JDM-spec Bluebird pillarless sedan.
Image

The event also brought out quite a few stock Bluebirds, all minty-fresh as hell.

Z Club always turns up in good numbers to support the event
Image

Image

And the biggest gathering of Roadsters I've seen in one place :) The yellow car on the right is USDM, complete with Katy's Nest sticker on the windshield.
Image

And in terms of unusual cars...here's a Ceddy coupe, running an L series with a 4bbl manifold, and what looked like a Holley single point injection throttle body conversion
Image

But the prize for the unusual has got to go to this 510...
Image

Which rolled into the event with a very unusual exhaust burble...from a Subaru flat four!
Image

If you look real close, you can see little portholes cut to allow access to the spark plugs. Pretty tight in there :)
Image

A Z rally car with a very 70s inspired body kit.
Image

Sunny truck dragster with CA18DET turbo power
Image

The Datsun Day is always very enjoyable for its chilled atmosphere, and the sheer variety of cars on display prevents it from getting too serious. I did so much talking, I lost my voice for today :)

Many thanks to the Sydney Datsun Club for putting on a great event, We enjoy it every year :)

Also crazy rare because it's one of only a handful of Coupes that is not SSS-spec.

Sure was. It was the only representative of the kenmeri clan on the day :)
Image

Innovative cosmetic treatment, the guy had a carbon vinyl wrap on the roof, in the pattern of a vinyl roof.

Thanks for the photo Kev! It was a great day with some great machinery, I too was glad to see some builds with L and A series motors. The SR swap is getting a bit old I think.
It was great to see the Hako again too
