Sorry for the lack of updates everyone. I've been a bit preoccupied with other crazy events as you'll see in a bit.
How's life with the Hako?
Its been pretty good. Only bad thing is the A/C is out. Need to get that fixed ASAP because driving around without it in the humid Japanese summer is taking its toll. Also, the water temp gauge is way out of whack. It has been reading 20-30C too high. Scared me pretty good a few times.
All in all I found a real driver that only needed a light carb cleaning and tuneup to enjoy.
Here are some small updates. I need to get around to posting my actual photos but I suppose some instagram action will do for now.
I installed a 09 Racing dry carbon wide mirror and a full carbon steering wheel shortly after aquiring the car.
The crummy "Indy 500" horn button on the previous wheel wasn't cutting it so I made my own version. I thought it was fitting given the history behind the vehicle and...my name.
I'm pretty happy with the result. My backordered Works Bell Rapfix also decided to arrive.
The original engine bay was pretty decent but the aluminum was all pretty oxidized so I have been polishing and refinishing pieces whenever possible. I've started to polish the carb bodies but they still need a lot of work. The valve cover and air horns are now in an acceptable state though. Next up is some replacement hose to lose the lime green snake that kills my eyes every time I pop the hood.
My A/C decided to go so I have started acquiring parts to upgrade the cooling system. For some reason it is really hard to source any of the major brand electric fans here in Japan (at least without paying a 200% markup)
A friend was in town for the Idlers 12 Hour Endurance Race with Rauh-Welt so I took him on a little tour of some shops.
Nismo Omori Factory
Tokyo bayside Super Autobacs
RAC, a local racing supply shop for some last minute FIA approved shoes.
Star Road to inquire about A/C options.
RWB in Chiba for the race.
If any of you are interested in the race itself here is my coverage. It was pretty crazy driving these super wide Porsches
through the Japanese side streets then racing them for 12 hours straight. This is part of what has been distracting me from keeping up with the Hako coverage.
