So, I am about to remove the rear window on my 80 corolla hatchback and curious what my options are for "universal" rear window seals.

I need to do the same as my seal is cracked around the corners. Have you contacted local glass places to see if they have some kind of replacement seals? Yours is the square window right?

Mine is a square window, its just the rounded edges that have me concerned with finding a decent replacement

yea I have two extra 45 degree angles on my lift back. The local glass company said that the seal was dealer only. I might be out of luck for mine

keep your eyes on ebaY... Thailand "company" is reproducing some things... just not sure if they do a hatchback rear glass seal. You MIGHT look at getting a custom made piece of glass... that lays on top of the hatchbacks seam... then glue it in like modern glass. You can't do this easily if the glass has a bend in it

I have a little more time to look, but did find this:

May have to do some measurements, but I could have sworn that when I took my rear glass out, there was overlap with the metal and glass.

I think I might have found one for the square coupe glass I would see if you can get some more pics of it but I think that is the exact one you need:http://www.toyotavintageparts.com/toyota-corolla-1980-83-coupe-lift-gate-glass-weatherstrip-oem/

His prices are kinda high for some stuff, I was looking for a tail light and it was 150$

Thanks for the link. Never even seen a new one listed. Now I know the high point.

Looked at my old rubber and noticed its an S shape and the glass overlaps the hatch metal, so I am going to try and look a little more.

But again, thanks!!! Now I know there is an actual option available.

How much overlap are we talking? If I cant find the right seal I might just see if it is possible to glue the glass down.

Mine appears like it has 1/4 of overlap, but I will need to actually measure since this is a guess. I will try and post a pic of what mine looks like tonight.

Unfortunately since I needed to get it back together and didn't have time to try anything I just cleaned up my old gasket and used 3M weatherstripping adhesive on the inside of the gasket and black chalk for the outside and any place I saw that could allow water through.

Not the option I wanted, but it sealed and it buys me time.
