Hey all,

First of all, sorry for what is no doubt a noob question. I did search, both on here and Google, but I can't find a conclusive answer and it's fairly urgent.

Okay, so I need to know if you can re-barrel an SSR Longchamp XR4 centre, onto another SSR barrel, ie SSR Formula Mesh. I've noticed that the ones I'm looking at have 20 bolts to fit the centre to the barrel. Most of the other Longchamps I've seen have 10 bolts, but I've seen plenty of Formula Meshes with the 20 bolt setup.

Can anyone confirm whether a 15" Longchamp centre with 20 bolts, would fit a 15" Formula Mesh barrel with 20 bolts?

Any help would be hugely appreciated, I don't want 15x6 ET38 :(

Eli

I know the pair that you're looking at buying. They're XR-4S, which means they have a larger centre than regular 15" XR-4. I doubt they'd easily fit any other 15" lips. They may be close to Reverse Mesh, but the only way you're going to find out is to measure them. You'd be far better off getting some custom lips made in my opinion.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I didn't realise the centres themselves were a different size, but it makes sense. I'm guessing the XR4S barrel/centre configuration was to allow greater clearance to brakes, similar to Work wheels' A disk versus O disk.

At least I know it's not a given universal fit. Re-barrelling is sounding good (albeit a tad expensive). I've noticed the XR4S also have a cutout in the centre itself for the valve stem, whilst XR4 models (and SSR Mesh, for that matter) have the valve in the rim barrel itself. Perhaps SSR Reverse Mesh will differ here, too.

If I see the right set of SSR Mesh/Reverse Mesh, I might get the owner to measure the PCD of the centre-to-barrel bolts, but I'm thinking you're right - re-barrelling sounds like the go. 15x9, come at me! I bought those ones that were for sale, now I just need to find another pair, somewhere, eventually, possibly...

even formula mesh face sizes have differences between 4x114 and 4x100 versions in 15" barrels

Oh geez... So even if I was just playing with SSR Formula Mesh, I couldn't swap barrels between a 15" 4x100 and 15" 4x114.3? That sucks... but at least wheel shops should be able to order something in!
Cheers again :)

^ you can swap faces and barrels.
As long as they are both Formula Mesh in 15".
