The look for my one and only car is over, I've been looking for a 1st Generation Cressida since I got into J-tins. When one would popped up it would either be to far away or out of my price. Well this week two MX63s magically appear on craigslist both were on 4 hours away and both were in good condition. I picked this baby up yesterday, I got off work at 4:30, picked up a U-haul and drove to Danville, VA. After dropping the U-haul off, I fell into bed at 4:00am this morning but it was worth it.

Its a 1980 Toyota Cressida with 144K on the clock, its all original including the A-Trac Player. The interior is in really good condition except for the rear seats head rest. The body does has some rust around the rear window where the fabric is. The engines runs great but it has a surging idle and the brakes need to be bled badly. Plans right now is to just get it running right and resolve the rust problem.

Nice pickup. How much did you get it for if you don't mind me asking?

careful, those vinyl tops can cover up a lot of rust that they cause by holding onto moisture over the years. be prepared to deal with that. don't think that was a factory option, any info on it? perhaps a coachbuilder's plaque or info somewhere in/on the car? second one i've seen with a terrible vinyl roof conversion.

you should also ditch those window visors. i'd be happy to take them off your hands.

keep that 8 track, you can get some neat tapes for it if you look hard enough.

Funny you said something about those visors, I was about post them up for sale as soon I figure out how to take them off. You got first dibs.

I started tearing down the vinyl top yesterday and ran into rust. The worst spot is were it starts at the trunk.

I removed the vinyl top today and all I found was rust covered up with mounds of bondo. The more I dug the worse it got, there are rust holes all along the bottom of the rear window. The largest one measuring about 3" in diameter. Its like they didn't even try to fix the rust problem, they put aluminum tape used in duct work over the hole and used silicone on the inside of trunk(I guess to stop leaks). Its going to take alot of work to get right, if anyone knows of any MX32 at a junkyard could you cut the bottom rear window metal out.

shit, sorry to hear about your rust issues dude! best option is definitely cut and weld new metal in from another car, but it will not be cheap.

normally i'd never suggest this, but you COULD just chop it into a 'vert... might be the only way to save this particular chassis.

thanks for dibs on the visors, i actually have been looking for a set forever and lloyd managed to get the last set that turned up. at least they went to a good home... let me know when you're ready and i can walk you through removal. pm me your price and we'll go from there.

my parts cressida has rust underneath the rear windscreen.. they are common to rust there.. including both bottoms of rear quarters and front guard bottoms from what i've noticed. so just ensure they are all hanky dooreyy to.

Well today I attacked the brakes, the master cylinder had a bunch of gunk in it and fluid was dark brown. The front brakes were the worse, I tried to clean the master cylinder as best as I could but there was still gunk in there. I'm thinking about buying a new master cylinder just to be safe. The car brakes better now, but its still not where I want it. Sometimes I still have to pump the brakes, air is somehow getting into the system and I thinks its at the master cylinder.

Keep up the efforts, I'm glad to see you aren't giving up despite the setbacks. It's a very rewarding car to drive, it's worth it!

my x8 does this, bleeding over and over again helped but after going through 3x bottles it wasn't getting any firmer. does your pedal feel firm when the car is off but soft when it's running? could be the booster (unlikely) the check valve or the master cyl if that's the case and you don't have a vac leak somewhere.

so have you decided whether you're going to sawzall the top off yet? if ever there was a candidate for an x3 vert this would be it!

Yeah its firm when the car is off, actually the first time I bled the brakes and started the car it died when I pressed the brakes. That vacuum leak is probably why the engine is surging at idle. If its not to hot this weekend start looking for the vacuum leak.

You must be reading my mind because I just bought a brand new Ryobi Sawzall but not to cut the top off the Cressida lol
