Hi everyone!
I have myself a little (BIG) project! I own a 1972 MX22 MKII Coupe Corona. I have had her since about 1998. She was my daily drive for a few years, I then changed vehicles. She has pretty much sat around in the yard doing nothing since then. (I never realised exactly what I had back then)!
So it has recently been decided that I would fix her up to her former glory. Thankfully I have the help of a couple of friends who know there stuff, especially when it comes to celicas!
So, I will put up a few pics of where we are at, it will be a slow job as we are really only spending literally a few hours a week on it.
We are at the stage of pulling guards off and working just how bad the rust is!
I am after a few parts, I guess the ones that I am struggling with are the rear window rubber as the window need to come out for repairs and the old rubber can't be reused.
The stainless trim that goes around the rear garnish plate and tail lights.
After a few other parts also, but they are the ones I am struggling with at this stage, so any advise is welcome!!











So that is pretty much where we are at, like I said, it will be a slow process, but I can't wait to get into it some more!

Again, would love to hear any opinions, advice along the way, my knowledge is pretty minimal, so any facts about this model would be great!!

I remember reading a while ago on this forum that there was a member that can source/make the rubber for the windows for the MX22....now just to remember who that was

Very great looking project... the rust is a silent killer on these cars. It looks like you have your work cut out for you but it will be will worth it in the end. Don't worry too much about the front and rear windshield rubbers. I am the guy on here that can get them and will work with you the best I can

Are you changing the engine?

You dont have to put the rear trim around the tailights back on.Could just fill and delete the mounts and holes for it.

It dont look like its going to be a OE build.

Looks like you have a lot of work to do! My mx23 had similar rust, not quite as bad but ive been working on it for over a year now.. For much more than a few hours a week too! But stick to it, and it will be awesome

Not sure on engine yet, it current;y has the good ole' 4m in her, my main priority is to get the body done, and perhaps just run with the 4m until I have made up my mind about the engine. Some one suggested a 7m.....

As far as progress goes, I am slowly stripping paint off. I have found a lot of bog and previous repair work. Also, the previous owner de-badged the entire car, and he knocked in these areas, then fibreglassed and bogged over...and obviously bog was out on special when he did the job

We are just about to purchase a welder to get some major rust repair work happening. But I have soooo much paint stripping to do before I get to that - thankfully they are only a small car lol!!

Slow job, but I am still motivated and very keen to see it through

Are there any junkyards nearby with any old stuff in them

Just about to send you a PM with photos of the tail light/garnish trim.
Did you manage to get onto the unstated yet?
Im also going to get new weatherstripping of him hopefully, seeing as were both in Aus, maybe we could save on postage together
