Excellent story. Great save you did. You should have honors bestoed on you by Toyotaphiles for saving such a worthy car. Good luck with the future build. I will be watching this one. :D

Talk about the right place at the right time! Good on you for saving it, it looks like it has potential-congrats! A simple google search for that car and they probably wouldn't have sent it to be crushed so soon... hate to think of how many restorable cars met their end that way.

So, you saved it a couple weeks ago. Have it home now?

Hopefully the paperwork is almost done, so I should be able to pick it up soon. In the meantime,
I have managed to track down an intact liftback taillight. It needs to be cleaned up and have the digital camo duct tape removed from the edges.

I then happened across an '85 SR5 coupe in the junkyard, and was able to grab the fuel tank sending unit, and front signal lenses. Hopefully after I get the fuel line on the GTS tank fixed, I'll have all the parts needed to get the car on the road minus wheels and tires.

Texted Yuri to see if he was able to bring the car home the other day. He replied back saying someone at the yard accidently crushed the car. So he's waiting on getting back his money while the guy who crushed the car got suspended. Soooo lame! He's looking for another AE86 at the moment.

THAT IS JACKED!!! How do they accidentally crush a car? Most place put DNC when the car is a damn keeper :/ That sucks.

Ugh, if this makes me feel this terrible, I'd hate to know what Yuri feels like right now.

Considering it was already paid for, and he had already started shopping for resto parts for it, I'd say this junkyard owes him something for all that trouble. The cynic in me wonders if there was some trouble with the paperwork and they found it easier to say they crushed it by accident and refund the money.

Wait WHAT?...

They crushed it even before ANY parts had been picked off it? That is fishy as all hell.

I am thinking this may be what had happened. Doesn't seem right for a yard to crush a car with no parts picked from it, and especially weird that it would be crushed with the word HOLD written on the windshield at least. Hopefully the car still exists, but I dunno...

If it is truly crushed, that is beyond saddening.

Sounds like they sold it to a higher offer.

Whatever happened, it totally sucks. But who knows, maybe things will end up for the best.
