I want to lower my 85 Toyota Cressida MX73.
I'm not sure how many coils to cut.
Anyone have experience with this?
or any suggestions??
Thanks!

Cut one coil at a time until you get your desired ride height.

Do you know what type of wheels you will be using? size and offset? that plays a role on how low you can go.

Also youre going to have a bit of a shittier ride with cut coils. The shorter coils will make the ride bouncier which is not what you want with a lowered vehicle. If anything, you want a stiffer a ride so that youre not smacking the undercarriage going over bumps or having the wheel wells rub the top of the tires.

Im not saying dont do it, but just be informed. Lowering springs with a firmer rate are always recommended. If you have MacPherson front struts you can also make your own coilovers for about $40 which will be far better than cut coils.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm just cutting the coils for now.
At least until I can afford to do it right haha

cutting a spring in half effectively doubles the spring rate, so it will be stiffer.

the bounciness is usually caused by crap shock absorbers. cut springs with shorter-stroke shockers can give a pretty comfortable but sporty ride

Yup, every single MX7x cressida I have owned, first thing I did was cut 2 coils all the way around. Camaro shocks in the rear(1982-2000 doesn't matter) and either sw20 MR2 rear strut inserts or I have used AE92 inserts as well. Nobody ever knew I was running cut springs. Don't know what it is about the cressida, but it rides just fine on cut springs!

Sits great and rides nice!
