whats up dudes!!!

A quick up date on exterior RATROD mission with paintwork and a had a mate over with a SLR camera so we dicked around and took a few cool photos.

Paint work is coming along nicely think it should look pretty RATTY when im done which is what im after hahaha.
Should have the paint fully RATTED by end of weekend so can start on something else after that.

Hopefully have GILMERS!!!!! but playing the waiting game as the guys doing them are doing it cheap and in their spare time so will just have to wait until they can sort them for me. damn it!!!

Hopefully getting whitewall treatment tomorrow just waiting for my mate to confirm he can do it!!!!

Spun the tires in anger tonight and it loved it - just need to weld up the diff so it will spin both!
trying to find a diff that will bolt in which will be a good upgrade but doesn't need to be shortened as this car is being built on a very cheap budget.

My other cars are newer and cost an arm and a leg to modify.

Other car = RX8 just ordered aftermarket computer tuning/ re-flashing set up from states and also new body kit, cost more than ive spent buying and building this whole car hahahaha

Anyway enjoy the pics - well hopefully you enjoy them :)

whats up dudes,
So i blew the diff last weekend, new it would'nt last long as it is the standard rt40 piece of snot.
So tonight I removed it and welded it up so now it will be locker!!!! hahaha yusss
No sure how long it will last but will just have to wait and see
Keeping my eyes out for a diff the will fit easily enough
Anyone know of a bolt in diff set up that is a good upgrade?
I know MK2 corona diffs bolt in but are hard to find.
Also i hear alfa 105 will bolt in but also hard to find.

Off to wreckers tomorrow to measure up and hopefully find something that will go in.

See the destruction and diff locking procedure below.

Diff locking = welding that bitch up

whats up.
Locker is in running fine no issues did about 250kms today city, highway and hill driving a couple drifts but no solid burnouts
Just going to wait till i have something decent in there before popping some tires.

Think i might make a jig and have a crack at shortening my own diff!!
and get some axles made to suit.

On another note the sign writing is on and looks awesome.

whats up,
Another weekend and some more progress on RAT040
I scored a sun visor for the front which looks awesome so fitted that up and added a few personal touches to complete the rat look.
After i fitted and test drove found it need some bracing as i didnt use the middle bracket which screws into the roof thus causing it to vibrate and flap a fair bit at highway speeds.
So i used some bits in my shed and made a brace down to the window wiper panel and it looks pretty cool i think

Then i added the skull to the top which is also cool as fluck

Im taking the beast to the Kustom karnival in brisbane at acacia ridge hotel this weekend hopefully get a good response again!!!
Some RAT040 car porn below.

absolutely awesome

wouldn't a hilux diff be the simplest while being decently strong upgrade?

cheers dude,
yea a hilux diff is what im going for but finding one of the older RN model diffs that is a straight bolt in is hard.

Plus future plans for the car will see a fair bit more horsepower so i want to make sure when i up grade the diff i dont need to do it again.

Ive heard that the Hilux diffs that will bolt in are stronger but not bullet proof.

Unless i find one for cheap and easily enough i will get it but otherwise shortening one is what im going to do.

whats up,
Up date time.
So 18RG is gone and i know have the 13B at home and have started the fit out.
So far I have rough fitted the engine and started on the cross member design ect.
scored brand new RX3 front plate and new Mazda mounts
I have ordered the new fuel pump and fuel lines, oil cooler, gauges ect to monitor this new beast.

Have chopped the trans tunnel to make it fit will need to chop out complete tunnel and will roll a complete new one.

After test fitting the engine either i need to modify the sump or cross member to bring the engine forward enough to get the gear stick in the right position.

I could go over the cross member but the engine will sit to high and will look shite.

So i will be notching the front RT40 cross member to allow the engine to come forward about 2 inches thus keeping it nice and low in the engine bay.

Got 51mm IDA weber which should give it a nice throaty sound.

Engine is a series 5 RX7 N/A 6 port motor.

Once i have it in and running will save my pennies and strip it down and bridge port that bitch for some more performance.

rotary transplant is sweet. looks pretty small and light? you gonna end up with a big turbo hanging off of that? i was seriously contemplating going with a rotary in my rt52, maybe in the future.

what happened with the 18rg?

Yea the 13B is a lot lighter than the 18RG boat anchor hahaha.

Na no turbo going on this engine, it going to be a lot more ratrod style so maybe a blower out the bonnet, but that's along way off yet.

The 18RG was sold to my mate who is doing the same conversion in to a RT40.

I had always planned to put a rotary in but i stumbled across the 18RG for cheap so i went with that, but after driving it for a few months i realized that the 18RG is too heavy and i love rotary sound and hi reving engines.

so out with th e18RG and in with 13B.

Should have alot done in the next week I have 7 days off work so hopefully get it in and running.

Curious to know what transmission you are bolting to the rotary. I think I have seen a turbo rotary toyoglide setup in a corolla. Didn't know how they did that unless the bell housing pattern was the same?

Im using a series 1 RX7 gearbox to start with mate.

Its a series 5 6 port engine but has the smaller flywheel fitted so can use the older gearbox.

Once I have it all in and running and everything is good to go ill put a few KMs on it then pull the engine out and bridgeport that shit!!!

While it is out i might source a larger flywheel and bolt on a series 5 turbo gearbox.

Should be all good tho, dont think a toyoglide would bolt onto a mazda engine without mods and the toyoglide would be far to weak.

Probably a RX7 auto box fitted up behind it.
