Just bought a 75 TE31 with 75k original miles!

Hey everybody,

Today, I was drinking coffee at the ass-crack of dawn, and was searching CL for JNC's like I do every morning, when I stumbled upon an ad for a 75 corolla deluxe, no description of the body style, tranny, etc, no photo, Well he had said he might entertain a datsun trade, and I had a 79 210 wagon i've been restoring slowly, so I shot him a text with a photo.

much to my surprise, he got back to me only a few moments later and said he loved the car and wanted a description, so I emailed him a paragraph or three about the datsun, and within moments, he had invited me to come check out the car.

at this point i had no idea what body style or shape this corolla was in, but i was certainly going to go check it out (i didn't ask him too many questions, i guess i wanted to be surprised) when i arrived, he couldn't have been more happy with my datsun, and I couldn't have been more happy with the BEAUTIFUL 2 door te31 that sat in front of my eyes, with it's original AM radio, floor mats, dealership receipt, 70's aftermarket wiper delay, not a dent on the car, or a scratch bigger then a finger width on the whole car. not a scratch on the glass, and every seal looks brand new. the locks turned like butter, and i gladly exchanged titles and drove this car home, in a state of complete and utter shock. I'll shoot some photos tomorrow.

I'm so stoked! I have an 82 starlet kp61 that i'm planning on building for the track (previous owner stripped interior, no heater, built engine and jdm wheels, flares), but now i have a beautiful stock cruiser to roll on. probably lower it on coilovers in the front, drop it a little in the back, throw some extra meshies i have on it, and drive her FOREVER.

I definitely will. Believe it or not, the previous owner has a DUII system in his vehicle (i have to breathalyze it in order to start the car

) so the interior photos would look rather, tacky. haha, it's getting removed on thursday; and once i can hit the engine with some degreaser, i'll surely shoot an engine bay picture.

I've got some 13x6 Carroll Shelby CSS meshies; with 205/50 tires on my KP... probably gonna reverse the tires so the white don't show (got em' that way), and I think they'll look just right on the TE31.

I also got to keep the wheels off the datsun!

so they'll go back on the KP and look nice; I love gold wheels on white cars... I sold the datsun with these 13x5 slot mags that came with the car when i bought it...

slight update:

I picked up SIX baby supra wheels (for 75 bucks and some KP taillights!!

) from a new friend and fellow KP owner here in portland. 3 14x5.5's, and 3 13x5's. 4 of them were painted a volk style copper, and two need a re-finish pretty badly; but I cleaned up the four painted ones (by hand in the living room), threw the 14's on some 185/60's, and put them on the car.

they came with all four toyota center caps!

The 13's (pictured) are gonna have to wait for some 185/60's before I put them on the TE.

they'll get high polished before the summer meets, but for now they look good and somewhat shiny.

I had those enkei sports clones on the corolla for a bit because I had them lying around; but they make the car look at little too "510" in my opinion; the 8 spoke baby supras will give it a more stately, toyota vibe. Those two gold ones sit there.. half refinished. the other two are still on the TE.

I'm gonna run the baby supras with narrow tires; tucked in neatly inside those huge corolla fenders, stock and somewhat old-school. but i'm definitely droppin the car at least 3 inches

the 14 rear/13 front staggered combo will look nice on the corolla; very subtle, and those 13's on some low profile tires are gonna look so good.

The baby supra's won't fit without slight modification to the rim, or a recessed bolt on the outside of the drum brake; so i threw the enkei clones back on, and snapped a photo.

next, it's getting dropped. photos soon.

I removed the fake 2pc bolts and stripped the clearcoat from the rear wheels, and haven't got to the front yet. what do you think, leave the bolts or put em' in the toolbox?

I like the look of the bolts but if they look cheesy up close I'd ditch 'em.

Looks better without. I think you should be showcasing the sweet ride rather than a set of rims. I think the non-bolt rims do that better.

Just remove the phillips head screw and toss it, thats what everyone does. Never heard of anyone having a problem without it.

just gotta be diligent and don't always think that dude will say no; I bought my 210 wagon for 700 bucks, and never imagined trading IT for a car I've wanted for a decade, but hey.

another thing; 8 hours with some maguires ultimate, all the other known detailing tools, and a professional camera shoot will make just about any car seem desirable to the right person.

Been encountering ignition problems on my freshly rebuilt 4k engine in the starlet; I'm kinda tied up dealing with it right now (!!!), but when the starlet will move smooth, I'll detail the TE; shoot the interior/engine bay, and get to work finding a front suspension alternative that will maintain it's stock vibe (aka: no camaro shocks) without breaking the bank. ideas?

also, a modest exhaust. i know that thing's probably got 20 million microscopic holes, and when i pull off from a start i get the fart of a thin pipe with air escaping.... but the engine runs so smooth!

Well we don't usually find cars in that condition in the Mid West. I also have found out that when you have money and are ready to buy, nothing good is on the market. The opposite is also true.
