Hey Cam, what are you doing as far as fender mirrors? It looks like it has a USDM mirror/glass on the JDM passenger's side, and some sort of block off plug deal on the front fender where the mirrors go. I bet there is an MA40 Supra a quarter mile from my house with those mirrors and my warning light cluster. :banghead: From what I have seen, the mirrors are the same ones the '79 and earlier GTs had, just with bases that are at a sharper angle- sitting on the top of the fenders, as opposed to the side of the doors for the US models.

Cam, obviously you'd prefer the 18RG, but my friend's dad has a 22R Celica whose motor he might part with, I think you can put the 20R head onto the 22r for a bump in compression and power, but I could be mistaken. Also, do you still have your FC?

Looks like I picked a good time to come back!

Yes! I still have both cars. I have an Offy manifold for the 22R as well...hmmm...I think I'm going to wait, it needs a title and bodywork before the motor gets built. In fact, the RX7 is likely going to be my winter project this year, insofar as getting it ready for spring. I thinned the herd this year and I'm getting myself in a good position to work on the Celica more next year.

Tired of waiting. Going to toss an engine in it and get a title, somehow. I won't worry about building an 18RG until I can actually find one, and that's when the "real" restoration will begin.

cam throw a beams into it .i have just had my new shell painted and im starting to put it back togther .same shell and same color RA45 gt shell .you will need a TA23 or TA40 crossmember ,as you already have the f series .,so that wont be a problem , a W58 gear box with a 4y bellhousing
the 18rgeu are getting hard to find, plus parts are hard to find new for the motor as well .

Update time! So, remember a couple days ago when I said I wanted to find an R series engine and toss it into the Celica so I could drive it instead of just staring at it? Well, the universe works in mysterious ways. I was driving my Dad to the store to buy a lawnmower battery, taking the scenic route through an industrial park to avoid the stop-and-go of the main drag, when I spotted this:

Image

Naturally, I doubled back and stopped to talk to the owner, who is planning on removing the 20R in favor of the engine he's currently building. He expects to finish his motor in a couple months; he took my number down so he can call me when it's ready! That means I'll have some time to prepare the car for a heart transplant. A few weeks back, however, I moved her behind the garage for an anticipated hibernation of sorts while I finished the RX-7.

Image

Someone had asked me to take a picture of the warning light cluster a while ago. Better late than never, I guess...

Image

I took a picture of the warning label on the door panel for good measure.

Image

Speaking of the RX-7...I always loved the stock telephone dials it came with, but swapping to big brakes and five-lug hubs left them homeless. Meanwhile, the tires on the Celica were so rotten that they barely held air long enough to move the car behind the garage. I think you can tell where this is going.

Image

Image

With two of my sisters visiting for the holiday, I figured it was a good time to get my niece and nephew involved. My nephew wasn't too interested but my niece was a great help, rushing around fetching tools and cleaning up discarded parts.

Image

The result isn't too bad looking. You might have noticed that I removed the tacky chrome wheel trims. Hopefully, all of the chrome trim will be off soon.

Image

Bonus: check out what I found in the trunk! It was hiding underneath a trim panel.

Image

That's all for now. Next up, I want to hook up a battery and find out which electrics work and which don't, and finish removing that awful tacky trim.

Congrats, Cam. I would love to come down and halp with the motor install when I get a new (working) car. Or bite the bullet and drive the truck down?

You should drive the truck down, then we can use the truck to go pick up the motor!
