Hey Cam, nice score!!

A poverty pack australian version of one of these was the first car i ever did doughnuts in!! :D

It's funny how your dream was to own a RHD classic Japanese car......I really want a LHD series 1 RX7....must be one of those things that you want because it's different to everyone else's??

This looks like a pretty solid example. Wish we got these up spec versions in OZ, we really only ever get the base model of everything. Even when we were exporting later model Mitsubishi Diamantes to the US, the base model that we were sending over there was very similiar to the top of the range Xi spec Veradas that we sold to ourselves.....at over A$50K mind you. Nice cars though, my wife has one as a daily.

Can't wait to see the progress on this beast 8)

That guy has been trying to sell that 18Rg on ebay for a while now. I'm pretty sure Toysport sells them freshly rebuilt for about $1k less. BTW, 18RC exhaust collector flange is the same and the RG, just might need to be flipped 180*.

If you have never driven a car with an 18RG you are in for a treat when you finally get one. Don't let anyone talk you into some other swap. If you hunt around and keep your eyes peeled you can fine one complete. If you have a smartphone get the national Craigslist app, I use the one for Iphone. There have been several on there over the last few months.

Download a copy of the 18RC/RG engine manual if you do not already have a copy. PM me if you need it. Read it...You will learn so much and follow it to the letter. Advice on tuning and parts for it from valve cover to oil pan are available from Joel(send a message to groupb here or at 1stgencelica.com) at Toysport. There really is no one I trust more when it come to the RG than him and his techs. He has been building them since before any round eye ever heard of them... lol j/k but something like that. ;)

PM me if you need any additional info or help.

Good luck on your project!

It's kind of neat, all of my favorite users are checking in and providing encouragement, I feel like I finally have a car that's cool enough. :P

kfd> I'll upload some more pictures of the interior later tonight...I'd do it during lunch but I have a hot date after work and I forgot to vacuum/dust the inside of the Cobra so I have a man-mergency to take care of instead.

jdmrx2> I could have sold you my LHD S1 RX7 if I would have known! I still want a RHD series 1 in Mach Green someday.

Crash1976> I've been planning on calling Toysport for a few weeks now! Once the title nonsense is sorted I'll be giving him a call.

Thanks for everyone's encouragement, it's really making this title nightmare easier to deal with. :x

I figured out the big difference between RA and TA cars... The first figure denotes engine. All "R" engined cars were RAs. All the 2TC and 3TC powered cars were TAs...

Is the same with all other Toyota cars like the supras were mk1 ma46(4m), mk2 ma61(5m) and mk3 ma70(7m) and jza70 (1jz)in japan and of course the mk4 jza80 (2jz), the sc300/soarers are both jzz30 (1j/2jz), the "g" in the engine code shows its a twin cam like a 2tg, and "gte" shows its twin cam turbo like a 1jzgte

'79 GT liftback, 20R, 5-speed, fresh waterpump & tuneup, drives reasonably well (could use shocks & tie rod ends), new tires, loud as fudge Holley fuel pump, ~160k, rear 1/4 rust, factory 8-track, new carpet, new tires, $1500. Talk me out of buying this effing thing, I already bought a 944 this week and we're like a month away from snow over here. :x

That's the general idea... :| Although this liftback is reasonably nice, I may drive it for a while until the bodywork is done on the RA45...THEN swap over the good stuff :D

I was wondering what was up with this. :P

Plan sounds good. I really need to walk down the street one day and grab some pics of this RA40 some guy owns. I've driven past the front of his house a few times and stared at it. Looks like it has a BEAMS 3S transplanted into it, Longchamp XR-4 and just really tidy condition.

My pal traded his Celica away this morning for a Lexus. :| At least I won't have to deal with storing TWO Celicas over the winter...however driving Jacks's lit a fire under my butt to get more work done on mine. That means acquiring a title over the winter so that I can start disassembly and body prep/parts chasing in the spring.
