I have shared pics of my sweet 85 GSL-SE before. Last night I was at a light, smelled gas, then the engine burst into flames. Fire damage seems to be limited to engine compartment. Don't know what to do next. Will post pics of engine soon.

Me too. Glad I was not on the freeway.

Here are some pictures of the engine. Note that the side with the plugs and coils looks pretty good. I have no clue how to proceed to repair and restore it and would welcome any advice. Thanks.

Sucks about the fire, but it seems completely fixable. I would just start removing all the obvious fire damage parts and go from there. That way you can get a better idea of how bad or little the damage is.

I'm so sorry about your loss, Jim. My beloved FC caught fire shortly after I purchased it, hence the name of my blog. Check the fuel pulsation damper and the fuel hose under the manifold.

Thank you Utah and Camshaft. And Camshaft, I have visited your blog but thought that sevens on fire meant hot as in high performance or good. Another guy on Facebook said it might be the pulsation damper. My engine was a 91 JDM engine.

Man that's tough, jim. I'm glad you are okay and i will say +1 on the fpd failure. I've seen many cars get destroyed from it leaking.

That pretty much sucks, but coulda been a lot worse. On the upside, you'll have a great story to tell after it's all back together and sweet once again.

:| sad to see, glad you came out ok. As the others have said, doesn't look too bad considering.. If I had this happen, first thing I'd do is spray the engine bay with degreaser then hit it with a high pressure hose in a friendly manner to clean out the soot, it will also allow you to further inspect damage. Pay close attention to anything plastic or rubber. Next I would unbolt a few bits to give a bit better access to inspect possible damage. good luck with it, I hope it's nothing too major.

The car is in the shop. Still finding parts needed.
Does anyone have a first gen hood release cable they can sell me? Cannot find one anywhere...

Thanks,

Jim

I have several from 79 SA cars I have parted out over the years. I can't imagine the part changed much over the span of 7 years on a part that really isn't sexy.

Hi Chris,
Thank you. How much do you want to pull one and send it to me in California? My email is jimb@san.rr.com and do you accept payment through PayPal?

Email me direct so we can complete this transaction.

Best,

Jim
