Nice find! Obviously by the engine tag it had an 18r-geu, and you have the highly sought after 7.5 axle found in the supra, its an f312 code which is a 3.91 gear non LSD axle, also if you can take good care of that honeycomb gt grille, they are super rare here in the states and only came on the 1980 usgp celica and the 1981 gtv celicas, once again nice find!

And if that is an 18RG downpipe, take care of that too. They're as rare as hen's teeth; I couldn't even find one back in 1991 in Japan (I had friends looking at various wreckers). Unfortunately, when the yards pull the 18RGs for export, they just cut them off with a torch instead of unbolting 3 little bolts like your previous owner did...

Interesting. In the plate Murad posted, you can still see the chassis code and car number, like they just copy & pasted it in the 17-digit VIN. But on the one you posted, it's less apparent. That's from an '81?

Yes mine is an '81. Im not sure exactly what you mean about how the two plates look. the bother are the same style but the one murad posted looks to have some extra info, maybe weight info? Your plate doesn't even show the vin it shows the "frame number".

Yeah, that's kind of what I meant, it's a bit early still, sorry  ... what I meant was, Murad's plate looks almost like the "frame number" just had the standard VIN prefix tacked on to it.

The plot thickens. I'm at work but I had my friend at the shop take a picture of the dash for me:

Not only is there no VIN plate, it looks like one was never even fitted.

Yeah, the dash looks like it's never been removed. I wonder if that space was for a VIN plate for US-spec cars, to account for the forthcoming 1981 standard, and nothing was ever fitted since the car was a JDM market vehicle.

To me that is on the wrong side of the dash. It looks to be on the driver side of a U.S. car. Check the Japan driver side.

I forget which Land Cruiser I've seen this on, but I have seen it before - blank, never-used VIN space on the dash, VIN stamped into the front frame rail and on the VIN plate by the engine.

For the love of Wilford Brimley, please get on classic-celica! I remember seeing an 18R-G in Utah for sale for like $500, I think it was on C-C. I can't wait to see the rest of this thread!

Haha, yeah! I saw that. That's a Christmas bonus and a half right there...

Depending on how the titling situation goes, I may just drop a 22R in it and drive it for a bit while I collect parts.

I can't wait to see it! I don't know if you have any connection with JDM exporters, but if you find another TA45, I want that idiot light lense cluster! Your TA has the Supra rear in it, doesn't it?

Yeah! Nearest I can tell the 2000GT trim was like a Supra without the six. 8)

I need to make some connections, there's a lot of parts I'm going to need...
