Finally started to attack the problem of the inadequate c.v axle. Called up RCV performance in Illinois and turns out they can make any bar for any application as long as you send them a cv axle with all of it's mating parts and so i did along with the specs i needed for the bar length etc.

A few weeks later this beauty came in. I was extremely surprised, the machining looks better than O.E!!

That' good to know Leadpaw [about the custom axle people].

Looks good, and thanks for keeping us informed of your progress.

Threw it together today and it worked out perfect.

BEFORE The tripod joint sits near the end of its travel threatening to come out if the engine were to shift a little too much. Possibly also causing extra stress on the drivetrain.

Ripped apart the old axle.

Cleaned the joints, painted the bar to prevent corrosion, then installed all corresponding parts with lots of grease.

Completed.

AFTER tripod joint now sits where it needs to now (test fit w/o grease)

Isn't it great when the job comes out the way you planned? Very nice.

awsome car! i had one a few years ago, they are so light!

if you get carried away, you can fit the sr20de or det motor to this car too! You need the rs5f32a or v (lsd) gearbox. Its nearly the same size as the 31box.
The engines are about the same weight as the ca block is heavy

Got rearended... please everyone never text and drive. Thankfully no frame damage, just some fairly minor body damage and my bumper cover went somewhere...

You sure about that? On the RWD versions, the CA is a good 30+ pounds lighter.

yeah the ca is a little lighter especially with the transmission im running, i may go sr20 once parts get super hard to find for the ca18. I really like how quiet the ca18 valvetrain is and how smooth it is when it revs way up there though.

Its a rs5f31c, dunno if it has the same 5th gear pop out problems as the later b13 F50A/F32V transmissions. I had the transmission apart and the 5th baulk rings/synchros were in damn good condition so it shouldnt happen soon if ever. If it does so happen, its an easy fix.

yeah well you know what you're doing
seems like guys were always griping about 5th gear popout
but few knew how to repair the issue properly
and were just looking for a cheap replacement 5spd

you're not turboing, correct?

Im not planning on it, its extremely fun to drive and solidly reliable in its current form. I had the car weighed and it came out to 2070lbs without driver and fuel tank full, coupled with 140 some odd hp is good enough especially if all i care about is cornering. I also get almost 30 mpg driving around which is a plus. Ill would also probably exceed the max power input of the transmission, and will have to go to the RS550A transmission, which will be soooo much more work to install and a bit more weight up front.
