Nice job on those Riversides! What type of media did you use on your blaster to remove the paint? BTW, when are we seeing pics of the Celica with them on? Looking forward to seeing the next few rims refurbished.

I can't remember what media the sandblasters used. I recall the guy talking about either sand or garnet, to which I was a little concerned, but they seemed to have come out fine without any damage, so I guess my instructions to be gentle with them were a good idea, haha.

Got my Mk IIs a few weeks back.

Masking is indeed a pain... I masked a few rims up last fall and it was very time consuming. The only thing I did was paint the accents, but they turned out well.

I'll be leaving the masking on these Mk IIs to the mate who is painting them, haha. At present, I'm using them as a bed frame until I have enough cash pooled to get some rash and light bends in the lips fixed and cleaned up. Once that's all sorted, I'll get them blasted to clean off the rest of the old, flaky paint and get it back to fresh metal in preparation for priming and painting. Already got a bunch of new bolts and nuts and the only thing left will be to get some tyres stretched over them. I'll be going a little more extreme with the tyres on these wheels, but I'm still undecided on the final tyre sizes. I want to try for something around 165/60 and 175/60, but I think they might be a bit too small in rolling diameter. The failsafe sizes will probably be 175/65 and 185/60.

So the Mk IIs seem to have been making babies.

10×5J +5 SSR FL-II for my Handi/Mira.

They look pretty good in those pictures, but there's a few little things that need repairing; mainly one of the beads, which has some fairly deep gouges. Another has some weird occurrence where the flange for the outer lip has bent outwards in the sections between the bolts. I figure I might as well get them all cleaned up and get the light scuffs on the lips fixed at the same time. I'll probably get the Mk IIs cleaned up at the same time, since they just need a bit of gutter rash fixed and some waviness in the lips rolled out. If time and funds permit, I'll get all the centres sprayed in the same gold as the Volks so they all match. Somewhat of a theme I'd like to have present on my cars.

looking forward to it. I would love to get a set of ssr star sharks to refurbish, but everyone selling them are asking for a pretty penny, and those are very few people since those wheels are so rare to find. I guess I will just have to play the waiting game.

Went for a drive yesterday -which at 100+km/h in a tin can on wheels for an hour each way, was not a pleasant experience- and dropped off both sets of wheels (Mk IIs and FL-IIs) to the wheel repairer to get all the gutter rash, miscellaneous bends and noticeable defects fixed. I should hopefully have them back late next week or early the following, so there should finally be a bit of progress on these.

would anybody happen to know if the 20 bolt volk mesh matches the bbs 20 bolt barrels/lips?

No idea on the measurements BBS barrels, but I can measure the Volks for a comparison if you'd like. Just remember that these are 14", so they're probably only comparable to 14" BBS.

270mm bore
312mm centre diameter
290mm PCD

Measurements are a little rudimentary, so could be out by a 1-2mm.

While I'm in here, I picked up my wheels yesterday with all the gutter rash fixed, so now it comes down to the arduous task of polishing the lips before I give them to a mate of mine to get the centres painted. I laid out my collection on the ground for a posterity shot.

Got a little bit done today. Basically just started sanding the lips to give me an idea of how much needs to be done. They're pretty good for the most part, but there are a few little stubborn spots which will need to be sanded back with something a bit coarser than the 180grit I've been using so far.

I really didn't need them, but the price was too good to pass up. Full set in 14×6.5J +6 4×114.3PCD. Need a lot of cleaning, but they're straight and only one has any reasonable amount of rash. I had to break off one bolt in one of the aero discs unfortunately, but there was little I could do about it. All the others are mint though.

Im a big SSR fan and love love love the aero discs. I would appreciate a heads up if you ever decide to sell. Im normally a 70s SSR fan, but 80s Aero Discs, Air Stages, and XR3s are high on my list of all time favorites. Would it be too personal to inquire on the price you paid via pm?

Edit: Would it be too much trouble to get some larger pics? Would love to see the Aeros a lot closer.
