So today the seats came back from the trimmers. I decided to keep the seats that came with the car but go for a more classic 70's style competition seat finish with them. New rears, headling and carpets too.

Hey Dave

Are you using any kind of rubber welting between overfender and rear arch?
Can't quite tell from the pics...

Thanks

Is beading / welting always VINYL? instead of rubber?

I was looking for some and came across a lot of vinyl examples and thought they looked kind of rough when I got them in the mail...

Or are they vinyl specifically because they would hold up better to the elements than a rubber one would?

Hiya

my trimmer made them for me as he supplies alot to kit car and resto companies, they are quite soft and look pretty good.

Ok, time to get this old bird back on the road LOL!!

Ive started assembling the rear suspension. However one of my staff who assisted in the tear down is no longer with us and im left with a 1000 boxes of washers, nuts, bolts, rubbers etc.

Does anyone out there have a break down of what bushing, washers, spacers are required for the complete rear set up. Pictures will do.

My old workshop manual doesnt really give me the details i need.

Like rear subframe, when mounting to the floor is there any rubber islolators etc.

Moustache bar, again when mounting to the floor are there any isolators?

I hope you get the idea.

Cheers

Anyways a few more up to date pics to help me along.

Front spoiler nearly there. Made a nice rubber gasket to seal the edges and avoid panels rubbing paint off each other.

Re-did the inner wings, much happier with the finish now.

Image

Shiney, still not been waxed just the paint finish.

Image

Had the chassis number tidied up. Looks great in the flesh!

Image

Managed to source another set of KONI adjustables, as there was a set fitted to the car buy its original owner I couldnt resist buying a fresh set. Got an ebay bargain NOS for £29.99!!!!

Image

This is what she looks like today.

Image

Refreshed the rear diff!

Almost forgot. Im unhappy with using a 40 year old wiring harness, albeit in great order I dont really want to see the old girl go up in a poof of smoke so when i was in FL last month i popped into see the EZ guys and picked up this. After chatting with the owner we decided to go the the Mini Fuse Box version.

What's the Koni part number on the struts?
Did you get rear only or front & rear?

Thx

Ooh, that's very lucky, I've tried sourcing those Konis new, and was told that they have been out of production for a very long time.

Kev, there is a place in Melbourne that modifies and re valves Konis to fit all these old cars. I know a few people who have had it done if that interests you. They can also shorten the shock so lowered springs don't pop out when you jack up the car.

Nice build by the way.

IIRC I spoke to the local aussie Koni importers, and I spoke to the right guy, since when I quoted the part #, he immediately said..."Ah, Datsun 240K, right?" :D

But I think the problem is the dimensions of the shock and how it has a pin at the bottom and an eye at the top, which is a rare combo. I think only Tarago and Pajero has something similar, other cars like Camaro also have eye and pin, but upside down compared to our cars, and twin tube shocks don't work upside down :)

If anyone is interested I can ask the seller if they have anymore stock?

That part number rings a bell, IIRC I got them off Alan, who also has them at the back of his race car
