Hello All,

I have been in contact with some of the S600 community and thought I would start a thread to show some of our progress thus far. If anyone knows any history on my S600 please feel free to contact me or post, I would love to know more.

Some of what I know:

Year: 1966
Model: S600
Chassis: AS285-1006299
Trans: E856141
OrigEng: AS285E-1010600
CurrentEng: AS285E-1010750
Paint: Y-6
Miles: 24,313

Looks like someone painted it at terrible mustard over the OEM white and then did the red paint. Looks like it also had an engine change.

I will be posting more pics as I process them.

As of today this is what we have it down to:

Our plan is a full restoration back to white exterior and red interior. This adventure is helped by my uncle (Joe) and I appreciate all his help and his access to a lift ;)

I persanaly reconned to take off all chrome bits before you do any body work coz they are frigile and restoration of them not always possibe or super expencive.

Other then that good luck :)

That's a great basis for a restoration, looks unusually solid, as Norcal says. I wouldn't worry about the non-original engine; it has an S600 engine and that's good enough for most.

The stainless (not chrome) strips along the top of the fender line and doors come off by prying them upward at the clips. They're held onto the body seams by a kind of alligator clip. If you're gentle and avoid breaking the clips you can reuse them. There's a little nut holding the bottom end of the one that goes over the tail.

We have made lots of progress thus far. Whom ever worked on the car before us sure did like bondo. We would find a large section of bondo and after taking it off with the wheel it would be a small dent. The passenger side front panel actually had only a small section of rust, the drivers side had some and we will most likely replace that small section.

We also have torn down the engine, looks like the previous owner did some tinkering, unfortunately forgot some parts, i'm glad we did not get the car running before the tear down otherwise I think we would have done some damage.

What we did find that was interesting was after removing the windscreen there appears to be japanese writing. Not sure what it says or means but thought someone on the forum would be able to chime in.

Thanks for the input and following.

We currently live in Texas, previously from Arizona and Nevada and after working on cars in Arizona we were pleasantly surprised to find a common siting of an inhabitant hitching a ride, i.e. pack rat nest. Got it all cleaned out, does not appear chewed on any wires.

Found out translates to "right door change", was hoping for something sexier but at least we know what it says now :)

Very nice proyect! It looks very nice and no rust at all, even it has some japanese markings from factory in the original paint! They say something about right door (R ドア= R doa) but the next with my japanese skills is impossible for me :)
Really a nice car and he to see it running nicely soon, keep with the work!

Nice job, what a cool car. How easy are these to find parts for? I have a Datsun roadster and parts are plentiful but I was always curious about the Honda s600 and the s800's.

Progress is slow but we are moving along, we have been working on the body most recently, we also have done a full tear engine tear down, trying to source some valve guides, hopefully we have most of the parts we need so far, wow has that been a fun adventure :)

Here's some pics, the more of the paint we removed the more bondo we found, we are having everything fixed right now and the car is in the skillful hands of a porsche restoration specialist, hint no bondo ;)
