Bought it for $5, only fault is that the windshield is split in two. :C

Smells like the 80's too.

I love those City Turbos

I've started many models but these two are the only ones I've ever finished.

I apologise for the dim phone pics and for posting about a car from 1999 on a classic car forum.
I don't have the patience for model building (or the skill), and I have incredibly unsteady hands, so generally when I try building some cheap revell kit, I fail because something about revell kits just makes them take forever to set. So it falls apart, I get discouraged, and abandon the model. But on both of these Tamiya GT-Ones I had no trouble at all, even when I was doing the really difficult to get right turbo-intercooler setup. The black car is sort of the runt, during building I placed the bulkhead backwards, and that same quick-set that made the model so easy also made it impossible to fix without breaking the body, so I had to leave the engine unfinished and sealed the engine cover on. I also was unable to do the taillamps, so I gave it a really unrealistic central lamp off a little toy Ducati that I broke. The paint is just basic matte spray-paint. It did warp the plastic (An effect I was unaware of when painting the model for the first time ever) but it's only really on the undertray. I had to remove the wheels before painting (because i knew the paint would not be kind to the tyres) so the black car does not roll. It's also got a bit too much camber from very slowly settling on itself, like some sort of bizarre stanced race car. I didn't mean for that to happen

The white car is the one I bought in case I botched the other one, which proved shrewd as I did exactly that. It didn't get paint because I was very paranoid about ruining both of my expensive Tamiyas (this was before I had a job) and the decals were minimal to keep with the style the car inadvertently got by my laziness and inability to place a decal without tearing it. It has no paint, but I did black out the pillars, and some bits in the engine bay (brake ducts and part of the intercoolers mainly). I fully intend to build more Tamiya kits, but I'm probably just going to have a bunch of white cars with white interiors and really strangely chromed internals. I'm fine with that though, because at least they will all match

Also, I'm sorry if my poor model-building skills make anyone mad that I did a terrible job on TWO Tamiya kits. I know they might not be accurate, but at the very least, they don't look bad (unless accuracy is something on which you judge models, in which case, yes they look bad. i apologise)

Hey just a little FYI the front wheels on the city vert kit are held on by these little pins that go through the center of the front wheels your gonna have to get creative to get any other set of wheels to work with the kit, and to get the rear to sit low the hole in the back where the axel goes through will need to be slotted but the axel is a stadard tamiya size so the wheesl went on the rears no prob

No need to apologize, you are several steps ahead of me as you have actually finished some. I keep getting distracted by the real stuff and other kits. I haven't finished anything in a few years. Just remember, this is a hobby and not a contest. If you are enjoying the builds then don't worry.

I do really enjoy building them, far more than I enjoy painting things or holding tiny bits of paper under lukewarm water for several seconds, so I thank you for the sentiment. Besides, if I ever want some nicely painted and detailed cars, I can just pay someone in southeast asia to build and paint the car for me and then sell it to me in a box labelled autoart

Picked up two kits and a box'o'parts.

The S13 was only $5, it looked like it was opened and returned broken, but that's completely fine.
Easily repairable body:

Here's all the parts I've got...was missing the wheels/tires and I believe a few other things.

Then I pulled out one of my 80's Stockcar models, an Olds Delta 88 to be precise...the roofs line up pretty damn well, and the hood is near perfect, i'd just need to do some work to the Olds' fenders.

Every time I go to Japan I always buy a new kit or a set of wheels (1/24 of course) but seeing all of these cool builds make me kind of sad that I never started any of mine.

Maybe I should start a thread on collectors who keep their models in their boxes!

To Build or not to build?: A friend gave me an original Pete Brock Bre Datsun 510 Model, Its sealed and in near mint condition. I know what there worth but i also know that i am not going to sell it. You buy a model for the experience of building it right? Not to put it on a shelf unopened. so would i be a fool to open this box?

Don't open it, if you want to build one, just get one of the various reissues and build that. Take that back, take the cellophane off to prevent the box from crushing.

Hmm, so the cellophane can actually cause the box to bend or crush? wasn't aware of that, LOL, but if i remove that then i am going to build it.

better off poking a few holes in the celaphane to prevent warping. Its because of changing barometric pressures in elevation. Its probably spent its whole life in Cali and has made it this far without getting damaged so it should be fine... boxes that get packaged in one area and shipped accross the country will warp over time...

Nice color choice! :D Judging from the roof it looks like it laid down really smooth.
