1971 Honda 1300 Coupe 9

Hi all,

recently my father purchased (in Victoria Australia) 2 complete 1300 C9 Coupes (one running the other dismantled) in addition were spare parts for another 4 1300 Coupes, including engine blocks, panels, windows, interior panels, wheels, drums - including the original workshop manual - Bizarre amount of stuff!! All had been collected for years under a house - the owner was too old to restore them. Dad wants to sell all the material as 1 lot, best it go to a collector! I'm also interested in a Honda Coupe 9. I haven't got the room for everything but I would be interested in enough parts to put together one car. I did my apprenticeship with Honda and I used to own a Coupe 7 for a number of years. I would really like to restore one but I have to do it on a tight budget. We finally convince Dad to sell the cars. I'll post the add in the classified section. Photos of the 2 cars are attached, unfortunately could'nt get photos of the spare parts..Don't ask - parents, digital cameras, and the internet - Nuff SAID!!

Was the guy who sold the cars to your dad named John? And was the running coupe 9 red? If so I think it's my old car!!! He lives in Tempelstowe Victoria had a heap of old coupes under his house about 4 Coupe 9's including a really rare ex Tokyo Motor Show Gold car with black roof very rusty but super rare.

I thought i'd revive this thread, hopefully this one owner example will go to an enthusiast - seems like there are more alot more fanatics of these old Honda's than there are cars?!? If I had the room and cash flow, i'd have snapped it up, I think they're brilliant value. It's understandable that the few examples that have survived are so highly regarded, and sought after.

Description:Very rare Honda Coupe 7. It is estimated there are only about 500 left in the world. This is a unique vehicle. Four cylinder air cooled 1300 cc engine. It was derived from the F1 engine Honda made back in the late 1960's, hence the dry sump.
Front wheel drive and a unique rear end gave the car great handling characteristics.
It was the first large car Honda manufactured, the design reflected the Pontiac Firebird Mr Honda drove at that time. The 1300 Coupe was a personal project of Mr Honda.
The car has been in our family since new. It is not a daily driver, it needs to go to a collector who appreciates it's rareity and place in automative history.

As an ex owner - buying a nice one like this for $5k is much better than an average one for 2-3k. Parts are RARE!!!!
