Hey guys Im new here and I thought it was about time to introduce my baby.

a 1979 TE31 Corolla with a 3tc swap




I am a college student who is enjoying my summer with the car, so I haven't done much work since I have not had her for too long (and I am still learning haha) but I have many plans.

So far I just cleaned some stuff out the engine bay .
Replaced seat belts.
Replaced some hoses.
Re-do some interior pieces to fit as they should
And other routine tune up stuff
So not much

But now, first things first I NEED a drop, any advice? I know my options with the leafs but I am not sure about the front since I dont have the type of cash to drop for coil overs right now.

Yeah I have been looking for fender mirrors or anything at this point cause the ones I have now suck and are very ugly Dad doesn't approve of fender mirrors though lol

Thats what I would do. You welding on the perches allows you to get it as lowwww as you want.

Well I have very few things to update on.
Changed my alternator after it let out on me and now I am going to tackle the ac unit that is making alot of noise. I also bought some fogs but I have to deal with the crappy wiring and broken screws that the previous owner left on the car before I feel confident hooking it up. I am also planning on new brakes, I need some bushings, going to replace some gaskets and so on.

I know it isnt much but keep in mind that I am doing alot of these things for the first time so progress will be slow

going to put up some more pictures soon too

Well first off I discovered I actually have a 2tc with just a trans swap. It looks like the motor was never changed, noob mistake on my end still I guess it doesn't make much of a difference

Here my plans in order of what Id like to do first,
replace bearing on ac pulley and see if noise goes away
electric fan and aluminum radiator
new exhaust or just muffler (mine sounds like a fart cannon and I need suggestions)
once i go back to school i plan to slowly do my suspension and my interior (still is original automatic)

my whole objective for now is to make the motor its self quieter and get the car lowered.

If i was to buy these what would i need to install them? can i use the old bumper supports?

Ive purchased a set of the bumpers, same guy you've posted a link to on FleaBay. I've yet to install them, but you can modify your existing brackets if you're handy. If not, purchase some from him. If its the same guy he access to the brackets in the Philippines. Also i've purchased 3 sets from Ground Control in the past. One Ke30 and 2 Te31's. Great for the $ and quality. Also, you can get a strut tower brace to tighten the front up, 2nd gen eclipse. Addco sway bars front and rear if you can find them. RCA's from T3 are good as well. They also carry Ground Control - https://technotoytuning.com/toyota/ke30 Specify for TE31. You can also get single leaf fiberglass leafsprings to get rid of all that weight of the heavy leaf springs and lower it even more.

A few days ago I took my car on the longest trip yet, about a 50 minute drive on the turnpike to visit my schools FSAE team to test out a new baffle design.

She made the whole way with no problems, but it did sink in how slow she is. At 5th im reving fairly high (no tach) and im going only 70mph. Not to mention the acceleration.

Regardless I took some pictures with my crappy phone when I got back,

the rear- Believe it or not, I really want to put my bumper on (and get rid of that muffler )

but heres the problem

Im not sure if anyone can see it, but there are two little plates poorly welded over the mounting point for the bumper. And if you put your finger in there you can see that the bolts were also broken off in there.
My only possible explanation is that the previous owner saw the rust and attempted to take the bumper off for repair. Only because he gave me the bumper along with the car and it is full of rust. But the plates? Only god knows why he put those there, even if it was rusted, theres no way to mount the bumper on the plates and have it level.

So I will address that to the best of my ability. Although, my biggest fear is that once I start taking the car apart for the winter I will find a lot of rust hidden in this nicely painted little car.

Still,
My front end is shot, so I really cant wait to take the cars apart and start building the suspension. If everything's right I might do some mods before the end of the summer just to see how they feel, like new brakes and coilovers.

Just a quick little update,

My passenger leaf spring gave out on me after driving with some friends to an event.
Now that leaves me with no choice but to drop it, so I am bringing the car to a shop to repair and reset or replace the leafs some time this week (hopefully).

But it leaves me with one question, just as I hear 86 coil overs can fit my car, can Starlet coil overs do the same? My friend insists that they can and would give me his set for free. So?

Sweet car. That blue looks good on the car. Is that a stock paint color?

Nope, the previous owner painted it this. I am not sure exactly what blue it is, still haven't had it matched. But I was looking at your build and originally it was the same orange as your car haha

You say your car is very slow even in 5th. does the 2tc seem like it has the power for a higher gear? If so Id recommend getting a 3rd member used or from a wrecking yard to increase your ratios to help your cruise speed. I am going to do it to mine... all the other cool kids are doing it.

Its been a few months

Thought about selling her but kept with it. Ups and downs, whatever.
Anyways leafs were fine, I think a shock seized up. All fixed now. Kinda overreacted lol

I have had a bunch of weekends to improve on her, I have been learning ALOT thanks to the car.
I just lowered the back and my T3 sleeves are coming in the mail (loved the service haha) 5.7 kg spring rate
now that just leaves me with a question.

When welding on the perches do I need to shorten the strut casings? Or is that just optional to go lower?



I am going to look out for that, I know a bunch of old guys I can go junkyard hunting with haha
