Hey everyone - Just wanted to introduce myself and immediately start asking dumb questions. I just became the owner of a 1974 Celica ST. Its got a 4-speed and an 18rc motor. I was wondering what the best places here and around the internet were to go and learn as much as i can about this new project of mine. I did a bit of research on the platform before buying, but now i want to know everything there is to know about the cars.

To start, am i correct that my particular version is chassis code RA21?

Thanks and i look forward to learning more about this amazing car. I also have a 1990 Celica alltrac, but thats a long, painful story

Welcome aboard. Are you the one that recieved the celica as a gift? Think I saw it on celicatech or alltrac.net.

Anyway, RA21 sounds right. Here is a good place for learning as well as 1stgencelica.

And yea, alltracs are a crap load more complicated then old yota's lol. My 80 corolla is so much easier the my st165.

Yep, thats me. Been at alltrac.net since i bought mine back in 2004. Still much to do on that car as well.

I will sign up at 1stgencelica as well. Think my first order of business will be suspension. the rear end floats a bit at highway speeds and theres some real play in the steering wheel.

Oh great, I will check that out. Im so new to the R series motor im not sure what the best way is to go. From what im reading it looks like the 18rg is a fantastic option but probably rare? plus the 18rc i have was found as a never used crate motor two years ago, so im hesitant to let such a fresh engine go.

can one expect decent gains out of an 18rc or is there a limit to what you can accomplish?

I believe it to be limited, especialy with intake and exhaust on the same side.

With that said, you have a fresh motor that runs well, use it!! Do little upgrades and exhaust, but just keep it running till suspension and everything else is where you want it. Thats what I would do anyway.

Maybe megasquirt it, or play around with different carb options. Just my 2 cents.

Great info, I will definateley go introduce myself over at 1stgen. (may have already, but can't remember). I have been doing searches over there since it was recommended to me, found a really cool layout of compatible engines. I am just learning about the R series and now I learn theres a whole slew of t series that fit!? wow.

Utahsleeper, I think thats probably what ill do. work on the suspension and do little things to the rc to get a little more zip. I know i need then maybe ill do a rebuild of something else over the winter. I think the more i drive it the more id like a little more low end torque. and from what ive been able to find thats probably a 20 or 22r?

Speaking of suspension, im noticing that allot of springs require that you weld on parts from an AE86? are there any strut/spring upgrades that are just bolt on with no welding?

by T3 do you mean Techno Toy Tuning? It looks like they have front coilovers but i cant tell by the way its worded if ae86 strut casings are needed, or if they are already part of the coilover assembly. Other than that they look to be a bolt on. and as far as rear goes really just struts and springs? is their an aftermarket spring offered somewhere or do i pretty much have to cut the stock springs?

Ill look up groupB as well.
