The reported value of $100K is a bit far fetched, well in Australia at least.

Agree with Kev they are pretty common and cheap over here. Here's some listings........

Yeah, R32 GT-Rs are "college student beater" status down here*

* unfortunately that means a lot of them are poorly maintained future moneypits

Don't knock the beaters, I know someone fixing a beater Rx3 and someone else doing the same to a 70's Skyline, these guys should know better  The only difference to the cars I listed in my previous post (carsales) is that it'll be your son or daughter who brings one of those into YOUR garage in 20 years time wasting your time and money. You better buy and put a couple of good ones away now, easy sell too your wife with that reasoning. I recommend a V- Spec 4wd R34 version myself. While you're at it FD Rx7s are dirt cheap.... better buy one of those as well to cover all scenarios

I hear these cars are much cheaper in New Zealand than Australia....

They may be dirt cheap down there, but they aren't dirt cheap up here and the rules for importation into the US are stricter for cars under 25yrs old. Thus JNCs = win! :)

To clarify this, an FD in good condition can jump from the high teens to 35k pretty easily.

And as far as car importation goes, over 25 years old-easy, under 25 years old you have two options. Option A is to convertit to being factory identical to its counterpart in the US. If there is no factory counterpart that is legally sold in the Us you have option B. Option B is to import several of them, convert them to meeting the bare minimum US specs and safety requirements as well as have 3 pass crash tests.

For a car under 25 Years old you are going to be spending well more than 100k if it's not a car that's already in the US.

Of course it happened in Wisconsin, ground zero for American progressivism and big-government nanny-statism.

People are quick to point out is that Homeland Security wants to crush rare cars. Not entirely true. The owner was simply trying to sell his car in a state that doesn't allow imported cars to be sold. This could have been avoided by having the car registered in Canada(It's legal and closer than Florida). Another major factor is the that these cars were crushed at the decision of the prosecuting attorney (not Homeland Security) who probably has no knowledge of any vehicles to begin with.

And the owner volunteered the cars for crushing to avoid some punishment. So, all the owners fault really.

....Couldn't the cars just be exported to Japan, or to wherever these cars are legal? Really doesn't make any sense to just demolish them.

And the cars are valued at $100,000? I'm a Nissan fan from hell, and I can agree that those are very sought after cars, but get real, yeah you could convince broseph cologne that they are really worth that much because "JDM style costs more bruh, because JDM" and let alone, we're talking about a car that's nearing 20 years old, try pulling that off with someone who actually know the real value of these cars, and you'll just get laughed at.

The story i've heard is that Wisconsin has a very stupid law on the books concerning VIN plates. If you remove the VIN plates for any reason (even if it's for a legitimate purpose, like repainting your car for example or doing rehab work on the firewall), you've committed a crime.

Considering the amount of BS Wisconsin is in right now, add this to the list.
