Through a good friend of mine, I found out about a GENUINE one owner 1973 Datsun 240K GL 2 door coupe in white with only 51,000k’s on the clock and the history to prove it! This will be the perfect basis for a GT-R-KPGC110 replica, most commonly referred to as "Ken & Mary". Until the car arrives from QLD, this is the only picture I have
Image
I searched high and low for the right car; I have been all over the country trying to find the “right one”. I almost gave up hope until I found this car. I am a very meticulous person and although it won’t be a fast build, I can assure you that it will definitely be a quality one! The car has never had an accident and never had any repairs done which is what drew me in. It’s not museum quality but it is a well maintained 240k with a genuine history and I believe that it is the perfect starting point for a GTR rebuild. The owner, who is now 91, bought the car brand new in 1973 from Nissan and has done a fantastic job keeping it in such good condition. He was sincerely distraught when he was signing over the papers but I assured him that I’d give it a good home.
Here’s a picture that I took while I was in QLD finalising payment and paper work.

The car will be picked up tomorrow by the logistics company and should be here on Friday. The plan is to enjoy it a little before I take it off the road for a full restoration.

So it arrived today and had a proper chance to look over it with a mechanic mate.
The original engine is running quite rough (was fine in QLD), needs brakes and carbies need a rebuild. This has sped up my decision to take it off the road and restore it without driving it around as is.
Plans for the build are:
*Rebuild L24 from ground up with Webber carburettors and a lumpy cam.
*Convert from auto to manual (if anyone can help me source the bits I need for this, can you please pm me)
*Respray in white
*240 K Manual centre console
*GTR guards
*GTR spoiler
*GTR grill
*GTR badges
*GTR trim highlights (silver instead of woodgrain)
*GTR steering wheel
*New carpets
*restored dash pad (this one’s cracked)
*Wide Wantanabe with low offset (keep hubbies for shows etc)
I’ve taken some quick close ups from my phone so excuse the quality.. I will get some better pictures once I get a chance.. it only arrived this afternoon and as you can see it’s NOT a museum car and is in need of restoration.

As you can see no rust in the floors which is great

Interior is perfect..

Some may think I paid too much or too little but at least it’s in genuine original condition. Overall I’m reasonably happy and doubt I’d have found cleaner anytime soon.. I know my plans will disappoint many people but at the end of the day, it’s another classic on the road that’s been saved from the scrap heap and will get nothing but the best parts and service. It’s my car, I have always wanted an old GTR and I’m sticking with an original style build. I won’t be putting an RB26 or anything like that (although that’d be awesome) it’s not what I want or how I envisioned it to be (I’m an old skool kinda guy!)..

why is everyone making GTR lookalikes? it is what it is, not a GTR, why not keep it like it is?

I appreciate the support; I’ll endeavour to keep you all updated on its progress..
other bits I may need help sourcing are the GTR replica bits.. Anyone have experience with the AeroDesu parts from OTOMOTO? How’s the quality? Anyone recommend any other brands or places?

I’m also chasing the Skyline rear quarter badges.. can anyone clarify which ones are correct

I had a bit of a look at all the carbon bits on Benbens (Otomoto) C110.
Looked like pretty good quality.
I bought a carbon bonnet for my HR31 from them recently and it was excellent quality.

Hi,
The car looks awesome and complete. With every one under the sun and their grandmother converting their cars too look like a GT-R (including myself) you wont find any left in mint condition. I am still thinking whether I want to go ahead with the fender flare cutout process because it would really be a major chunk of metal hacked out of the car. Only reason why I am even thinking about going ahead with it is because the shell was so f*ck*d up in the first place (the whole rear was fabricated back from scratch with pictures because it didn't exist).

I recently bought a VBC110 Wagon and i am trying my best to get her back to bone stock condition. Even just ordered the hubcaps for the steel Topy wheels. Will post pics of that up soon (still struggling with the coupe).

GT-R parts whether original or repro are very expensive and you could use the money to make the car a perfect time machine and show winner. How many guys out there have a pristine Datsun 240K? None? The standard shell looks really mean when lowered with a rear ducktail wing and front spoiler. Just some food for thought.

Regards,
Dan

PS. Please sell me the wheels and hubcaps if you plan to go ahead with the GT-R look!!!! I am serious!!! PM me your asking price.

Thanks for the feedback guys.. sorry for the lagged responses guys..I have been trying to hunt around for panel beaters/painters who'd be willing to take on the job.. there don't seem to be many who want to do a propper job. Unfortunately, I will be keeping the hubcaps as i'd like to keep them for shows etc..but if i ever see another set for sale, i'll be sure to let you know!

A small update: It took me A LOT of searching around but I ended up tracking down a 5 speed gearbox, tail shaft, flywheel, slave cylinder and all the other ancillary parts needed for my auto to manual conversion. All I need now is a manual pedal box… I’ve read that I can use my existing auto with a few mods but ideally I’d prefer an original item.
I figured this was going to be the hardest thing to track down; so I made it my priority. Also can anyone make suggestions as to some relatively good and easy brake upgrades for the 240?

G'Day mate,

Try Alfa fibreglass here in Vic - they do AWESOME work (I have their flares and front lip on my 1200, have seen their 240z and 1600 stuff etc) been around for years. I also know them - great people.

Cheers,

Karyn

Unfortunately with much regret due to a recent job loss, upcoming lack of income and ongoing bills, I have to put my 1973 Datsun 240K up for sale. I am a very meticulous person and this is a good honest original car. The original QLD owner, who is now 91, bought the car brand new in 1973 from Nissan and has done a fantastic job keeping it in on the road but like anything that’s old and tired, it needs restoration (paint work and mechanical). To my knowledge the car has never had an accident and no rust that I can see. It’s not museum quality but it is a great example of a well maintained 240k with a genuine history and I believe that it is the perfect starting point for a concourse restoration. I have only owned the car since May 2012 so essentially it still is a one owner car and while I’m not looking to make a profit on it, I am looking to get my money back and ideally I’d like the car to go to an enthusiast who will bring it back to its former glory.
What else comes with the car?
- New Old Stock Nissan KPGC110 Skyline gear knob (bought from Japan);
- Complete 5 speed manual conversion (pretty much everything you need to convert the car from automatic to manual)
- Very good condition chrome trim moulds front and back (bought from Japan)
- Original point of sale brochure, original owner’s manual and genuine Nissan workshop book
- I have a heap of other parts that will be thrown in with the sale of the car.
PLEASE DON’T MAKE ANY SILLY OFFERS, I will only respond to genuine enquiries and if you’re looking at this car then you know what they’re worth and how hard they are to come by.
