Check out this mint condition 25K miles original 1981 RX-7. My first was white, just like this one. Oh man, got to have it!

It's nice and all, but hell I think mine is even in better shape. The pic that shows cosmoline around bolts on the front header panel in front of the hood is flat out rust if you ask me. These never had cosmoline on that part of the car. Just a simple S model as well. You would have to change out the lame 2-spoke steering wheel, and 85 nanny-state speedo.

Mazdax605: The reason I like it is that my first RX-7 was a white S model with the two spoke steering wheel, steel wheels, and the 85mph speedometer. I remember how silly it seemed to limit the speedometer to 85mph. The white 81 in the ad reminds me of when I was 30 years younger and bought my first RX-7, an S model because that was all I could afford at the time. Also, you don't see the base steel wheels anymore as most people upgraded them so it is pretty cool to see a car that still has them.

My 85 looks a little different:

I dig the stock rx7 vibe :tu:
I'd snap one up in a second if I found a preserved one like this. Good on him, and great story too!

I too have had a look at that listing on eBay, and similarly drooled. (don't know about anyone else, but a left hook RX would be quite neat to own in NZ)

That brown stuff could be Brunox/rustkill that was applied later, contrary to the auction description. There's a heap of it around those exact bolts and in the engine bay of my RX-7.

Someone needs to ask the auctioneer when
did Volvo make an RX7?

Especially as about 60 pics in it says,
"A truly pampered and pedigreed VOLVO RX7?"

I agree that it is a nice car, and my early production car is similarly equipped but a GS ( no AC,or sunroof though like this one). The thing is the car is sort of on the lame side for that kind of money! I love original cars and this one qualifies, but man that is a lot of coin for a car that isn't very special. I love white SA/FB cars, but this car needs some help. Not anything hard, but at $7k with reserve not met is insane for an 81 S is all I am saying. Maybe I should put mine up for auction to see what it will pull down. It is every bit as nice, but cooler if you ask me. I would buy the white one ,but only if closer to $4k, not almost twice that price with the reserve not met. Crack pipe price if you ask me, but I am happy to see it as it means mine is worth more everyday these prices are paid. My guess it doesn't sell even though the reserve is met at some point. Ebay is terrible that way.

Wow, $7k is considered 'high' for a pristine condition SA22C in America? You guys have it good. Here in NZ $7k would only get you a rough Series 1 with russian roulette engine.

My Series 3 turbo GT is professionally valued at $20k and is nowhere near as nice.

Makes me even more tempted to buy a SA22C when I head over for my roadtrip, and ship it back with me.

Hi Gary, yup, the oldschool forum guys were talking about it the other night. If it had grey interior, I'd probably be all over it :) would be interesting to see how much it sells for regardless.

incidentally - have been meaning to email you about the Rotary Turbo reproduction decals, looks like there might finally be some progress on that front. Still searching for someone who can repair the silly rubber rear spoiler though!

Speaking of white SA22C RX-7s on eBay that are worth a kidney:

This one requires both kidneys.
I used to work with the owner, he sunk a lot of time and money into that beast. I imagine she runs like snot.
