Time to fit some new stuff.

First up (and because I'm a little short of time right now) my badge.

On the RB20DET there is supposed to be a badge here.



It usually says ECCS or NICS for the earlier model.

But if you happen to own a GTS-R it should say this



This particular engine actually had one when I saw it in a front cut at SSS Automotive many years ago.
But someone pinched it.

So I bit the bullet and bought a reproduction.

You can see the imprint of the old one.



Clean off the old gunk to give us a nice surface to stick to

Looks pretty straightforward



Just peel....

Now this.



I got this seat quite some time ago and just bodgied up a couple of rails on the standard base.



It was supposed to be temporary buuuuut it blew out a little.
9 years actually.
Aaaaanyway, time to strip it off the seat.



And bolt the new rail on.



The harnesses are super simple to fit.
They screw into the seatbelt mounts.
Just screw in the eyebolts and clip em on.



The seat is now about 1 and a 1/2 inches lower



Woo, lower centre of gravity, gotta be worth about a second a lap.

I have a vibration that is getting worse over 130kph.
Pretty sure it's the gearbox.
I will have to get that fixed (new gearbox) before the Classic Skylines Nationals in September because there is a track day on at Wakefield Park.
120kph down the straight? I don't think so.

Anyway, that'll have to wait.
I have a job that needs doing.
Been putting this one off for close to 18 months because it's a big fat bitch.

Well shit...



It's up there somewhere, above the starter motor.
I still haven't been able to see where the leak is, even using mirrors.
And the starter motor on an HR31 with HICAS is a real bitch to get off.
It was being extra crappy to remove, then I remembered that when I took it off the last 3 times I was changing the gearbox.
So I lowered the rear gearbox mount to see if it would help.




It went from being a completely shit job to being a mostly shit job.
But after 35 minutes Voila!




And there is the f#$%ing B*&^h leaking hose.
All 2 inches of it.




Had to cut it a bit to get it off, not nice when you are lying under a car.



If only the previous owners had used something other than tap water!
I wouldn't have had a few of the problems I have now.


And here is the offender




The local parts place didn't even charge me for a replacement piece of hose.
Here it is fixed.




The problem with the starter motor is the top bolt.
You just can't get to it.
I can just touch it with my fingers, and I have small hands, but cannot fit my hand and a spanner at the same time.
I made a special spanner to get to it.



Had to grind down the ring end to fit around the bolt head.
You can't get at it from the bellhousing side either.






My right hand is hurting as I'm typing this remembering it.
I think it is time to get the professionals to change my gearbox.

In other news, I bought these.

The plan is to re lip them using parts from here

And end up with something like the sizes recommended by a mate of mine
"A 7" +33 would turn into 9" +6 and the 8" +38 pair could turn into 10" +14. I would definitely approve of that sort of fitment."

Have to get them here first, and then do a fit and measure session to get the right lip.
The plan is to roll the guard and run a stretch tyre.

THE OLD MAN'S Datsun 2000 Sports (SR311)

Okay, car now has R34 gearbox.
Same RP71C but a lot newer.
It's from behind an RB25 non turbo.
It's a bit notchy compared with the old one, but that one had secret sauce in it.
I'll put in some additive next weekend.
Should have put a new thrust bearing, this ones a bit noisey.
But on the whole, 100% better.
No more vibration and whining.

Should be good once you get them HeMan. Have you got a rough idea on the lip sizes yet? or are you going to wait until you can measure them properly before you buy lips etc?

What colour centres are you going to go? or having them polished?

I want to measure them on the car, but I figure the existing lips are either 1" or 1-1/2" so either 3" or 2-1/2" lips.
Centres. Hadn't even thought of that.

Na na, the cap that covers the bolts on the bbs wheels. Paint that thr import gray, so once thr wheel sis together, you will have polished lip, polished center, with import gray centre cap

But you would have polished lip and center with that middle bit being import gray to match the lower half of the car

I've been chasing an intermittent misfire on boost that has been getting worse, to the stage that it has now turned permanent.
I started (as you do) by changing the spark plugs.
In went 6 brand new platinums.


- no change


Swapped a couple of dodgy looking coil packs




-no change


Swapped the coil driver, twice (I have 3)


- no change.

So yesterday I decided to get methodical with the coil packs.
I started swapping them out 1 at a time and testing it every time.
This will give you a good look at them





Whenever I have these out, I give them a clean with some silicone spray and a rag.


Suffice to say, I ran out of time, I only have 1 left to do, and -no change.

So now I am thinking further afield.
Prime suspect #1 would have to be the Crank Angle Sensor (CAS) because I was thinking it was boost related.




It could also very easily be revs related, though I haven't tested this theory yet.

Further from that would be the injectors and fuel filter.
So a CAS, a fuel filter, a bottle of injector cleaner, and check all the plugs onto the injectors are next on the list.
After I do that last coil pack of course.
