i see those GTX badges on the auctions fairly regularly, the rear center garnish and the grill too. i don't care for the center garnish, or the honeycomb grill, i like the GTR style, but i want the GT-Kai badges myself!@

awesome buy BTW!

Very cool Wookieballa - thx for the YAJ link!

But my car's a GT
Not a GTX

That means I've got manual crank windows among other things
GTX has power windows!

I'll keep looking

The GT Kai badges are pretty cool too - that would be neat to find as well

We'll see

If I find a color code sticker on it I'll let you know... But I'm not sure yet if it always was red or if it initially was a different color - ill have to do some digging under weatherstrips and such

Congratulations, that is one beautiful looking car. Just love seeing all these old Skylines popping up in the States.

Great looking car! Let me know if you cruise through NorCal on the way back from SLC.

I know you've got a stroker L28 in there, but what other kind of goodies does it have that you know of?

Hey Peter

The plan right now is for us to leave SLC around noon and head south through Vegas and on to LA - so no NorCal on this trip

If things change we'll let you know

Got picked up by Norcal510 and his friends - nice people all of them and genuine enthusiasts too.

Went to JDML and red car was out front waiting.

Hung out a bit and took some goodbye pics and then got on the road.

Currently nearing southern Utah border - everything ok.
Utah speed limit is 80mph - nice

Weather is perfect too - 70s ish

Will post pics tomorrow morning from home

It's picture & story time!! lol...
(Sorry if anyone's still on a slow bandwidth connection)

What an epic day saturday April 21 was for myself and my buddy Jan.
We flew out at 7am from LAX and landed at SLC at about 10am.

We got picked up at the airport by NorCal510 in "his girlfriend's" KNM...
Met the rest of his friends and headed down to JDML

Here's what greeted us outside in front of the shop in the beautiful mid-day Utah sun:
(Pic by Jan)

Image

I had thought I'd be able to keep it together once I got there (this past week had been hell, counting down the days, hours, minutes) - but all that went out the window...
(Pic by Jan)

Image

With NorCal510's KNM in the foreground - sweet car!
(Pic by Jan)

Image

This is the only pic I took at the shop - notice how blurry it is? lol didn't even realize how shaky my hands had become... hahaha

Image

We took a group photo, made our goodbyes and headed out.
On the road I was stoked to see that Utah speed limit was 80mph and I was stoked on the sight out of the rear view mirror:

Image

Red rocks ...

Image

Red Texaco pumps ... red everywhere!

Image

Before we left, NorCal510's gf had mentioned that since they got theirs they had become used to smiling and waving every time they drove the car due to all the attention it got... Sure, I expected some attention too in my red car, but I was impressed how everywhere we went people stopped and asked questions... Full on Nissan pro bono public relations all along the way... lol

But wait there's more ...

The canyon on I15 at the UT/AZ border was mind boggingly beautiful to drive through - can't wait to go back there one day and will definitely have to shoot video through it!
(Pic by Jan)

Now as everyone on this forum surely knows, classic car ownership sometimes comes hand in hand with daily challenges... It's part of the joys of ownership! I say this with a smile on my face... Honestly if something doesn't break every once in a while then maybe the car's not being driven hard enough... lol...

I want to emphasize that this could have just as well happened next week, next month, or next year - so I don't blame anyone. I have nothing but the utmost respect for the Eric and Ryan @ JDML and am soo so happy with the car I've bought from them.

So after "quickly" descending from about 5000ft elevation to 1500ft elevation and hitting the 100F heat of the Arizona desert we sprang a minor fuel leak... We had both come prepared with a bag of tools and supplies so it didn't really phase us... While I did some repairs, Jan took some more sweet pics:

Image

Image

We then packed it all up and Jan took more pics before we headed back out

Image

Now right as Jan took this pic, he quickly saw that I had accidentally made it worse!
You can't see it in the pic, but there's a rapidly expanding puddle under the car...
What I did wrong was to take the tank vent line and mistakenly run it through a spare tire well grommet so it would vent under the car...

What I didn't realize at the time (head thick with fumes probably...) was that I had unknowingly created a siphon effect.
With the fuel pump on, and the car idling, the tank was basically draining itself through this hose! oooops - my bad!
Even in mid-repair we still took the time to take more pics... Look at that reflection line!

Image

We fixed it again - this time correctly and were on our way again - no harm, no foul...

Stop for more sweet pics on the way to local gas station to re-fill:
(Pics by Jan)

This is on the California border at Whiskey Pete's gas station.

Image

It was late but we kept right on truckin through to LAX airport parking where I dropped Jan off, and then I headed home.
I arrived on my street at about 2:30am and coasted to a stop in front of the house.

The red car's loud, especially at 2:30am, and I like most of my neighbors, so I parked it on the street (crazy, right?) and went to bed...

Big finale next...

Even though I was exhausted and had only gotten 4hrs sleep, I got up early this morning because I wanted to pull the red car into the driveway... There's some kinks in the concrete which require me to lay out some 2x4s when I take out the Z - so I brought them out for the red car and couldn't make it up... Exhaust was bottoming out...

So first order of business was to go buy some lumber...
Ended up buying ten 8foot 2x6s and actually used all of them in order to get the red car parked in the back...

So here it is - the best pic of all...

Image

Big brother and little sister getting to know each other for the first time...
The red car's the big brother of course...

I've been telling my friends for the past 12years that ONE DAY I'd make this dream a reality, but now that it's here I honestly can't believe it.

I want to thank EVERYONE that helped make these past couple days forever memorable to me: my wife of course, Eric & Ryan @ JDML, Jan T, Alan T from London & Kevin from Australia, NorCal510 and his friends for picking us up at the airport, and all the people I work with who supported the dream!

Awesome roadtrip and pics! What a great way to begin ownership!

(We'll sort out your fuel plumbing issues no problem, I'm sure)
