15s are fine, provided they are styled for the car, with the right tyre combo and amount of slam. You can't just expect to whack any old wheel on there and expect it to look good.

For example, some guy in Japan doing it right:

And here is me, doing it wrong:

You need about a 15/16x7 +10 front and a 15/16x8 +10 rear.
Those should fit under a standard guard (may need rolling)
As you go wider you need to step up the offset.
16x9 rear would need to be around +15 with a roll and stretch tyre.
Or +20 to +25 to get under the guard.

These are rough R31 sizes, I think R30's are similar but you would need to check.
There is a calculator around somewhere on the net.
I'll see if I can find it and post up a link.

Orion- I absolutely love those wheels!
You're not doing it wrong.

Strength this time around, the sump on my spare FJ I will make a shallower but wider unit.

The current one has a big plate on the front and the bottom, its sits lower than standard to hide the drain plug (which I had to replace, it was half worn away!)
See how this one goes I guess.

Aiming this towards me, I put the simmon V4 on there merely to judge a 15inch rims height compared to car. I still reckon any 15inch are too small - that's my verdict only, no preaching on anyone else - all DR is good!

Personally, i like 15s/16s on pretty much anything pre 87 (I.E; square) 14s on smaller cars.
R30/31s look perfect on 16s imho.
Having said that, I have seen R31s on 17s that look good.
