 Post subject: Replacing break shoes on 81 Celica GT

Getting ready to replace the shoes and was checking it out to see if I can get it all a part... I could get everything disconnected except for this spring

any idea? Do I need to do that one first? I was trying to use needle nose pliers but couldnt get it to budge

I usually do that one last. Easier to get it off once the shoes are completely loose.
