Not J-tin, but still neat

While cleaning out some drawers earlier yesterday, the wife found some pics of my older cars. This is what I sold my first 77 Celica for...

A 73 Dart Swinger with a 318 and automatic. I bought it for 500$ drove it for a couple of years or close and then sold it for 900$ She wasn't fast, but she was smooth. Only things I did were shave most of the emblems, new radiator and new alternator. Compared to the Celica, she was a land barge. I could fit 6 friends and myself in her and still have the trunk for crap. After selling her, I bought a 1970 Swinger with a 318 as well. That one last about a year before the auto tranny grenaded. While searching for a big block and transmission for her I found this. The 70 got sold very quickly an cheaply to cover the cost of it...

A 69 Dart Swinger with a 273 super commando and 3 speed manual. Her bark was much worse than her bite. I drove this one for 3 years and had started collecting parts to restore/update her when disaster struck. I was t-boned by a hit and run driver. The car was pretty much totaled as they hit me square in the driver's side door and slid down the side of the car. Bent both rims on the passenger's side and bent the rear axle. I drove it for another 6 months, sold it and bought an Accord hatchback, but that is another story for another time...

My dad and our family's 1st new car was a gold w/black vinyl top '71 Dodge Dart Swinger with the Slant 6 engine.

That car ran GREAT and NEVER gave us any trouble... then in '79 he traded it for one of the NEW Chryslers. A FWD piece of shyt Dodge Omni 024.

Why? How about MPG. Those big engines weren't exactly known for being frugal.

Anyway, great pics. I love old film pictures of stuff and recently found some early 80's photos of my mom's Honda Civic. I think that one ended up becoming one with a white tail deer. We got a Chevy Astro EXT in '92.

Uh, YOU obviously don't know that the Slant 6 was one of the BEST engines in automotive production(very reliable and bulletproof)... and that the late 70's-early 80's FWD Chrysler engines were GARBAGE and ONLY good as boat anchors. The cause of Chryslers downfall in the later 80's.

THAT's why.

Actually, the 273 wasn't that bad on gas. I wanna say that I averaged close to 15-20 around town and a little over 20 on the highway. It had highway gears, so no lightning quick acceleration, but it cruised very nicely on the highway. Slant 6 is a magnificent engine. I watched a buddy punch a piston out of the block. We then proceded to remove the said piston, stuff the con rod back in the block and drive it another 12 miles home. They didn't call it the leaning tower of power for nothing!!!!

I find it ironic that other appreciaters of classic Japanese automobiles... also have a soft spot in their hearts for Mopars.

Not exactly a classic Mopar, but this is what the Corolla is replacing as my daily driver:

Me too! But I want the one you never see, the "post" sedan. Love the hardtops, but would love one of these just to stand out from the crowd...

I'm thinking slammed on some Watanabes and a RHD conversion...

I got a chance to buy a 66 Valiant Signet 2dr hardtop, with a rebuilt Slant 6... and a nearly mint original body, for only $3 grand.

It's like that lil Mopar stepped out of a time warp from the 60's.
