Are you planning on selling your wheels by any chance? :)

Nah, two of them are really bad balanced, so I'll just use them as drift wheels. But you can get them cheap from Driftworks.

Still haven't gotten around to do the engine swap, but I'm ordering the remaining parts needed as we speak. In the meantime, I've prepared the car for the Norwegian winter. As I work from home, I don't really need to use it every day, so I don't feel to bad about using it over the winter. I'll just take it out whenever the roads are nice and snowy, or maybe a trip to the lake every now and then :)

Looks pretty good in winter trim, doesn't it? :D

Might begin the engine swap next week, but a part of me wants to wait until the spring. Oh well... Here's a pic after some hooning in the snow.

No progress on the build, as I decided to keep it on the road during the winter. It's just too much fun in the snow, and it's nice to not have to care about the engine or transmission. If it brakes, I'll just start the swap. But for now, the old 18R is hanging in there!

Here are some pics and a short vid from todays trip to a frozen lake. Had a blast and a couple of insane 90° entries (saved by snow outside the racing line :D)!

I really like this car, it's so clean! Good luck on the swap!

Thanks. Finally got started today. Went over to Underground Garage (wich is actually under ground, hence the name) where my mate David went to work while I handed him tools and tried my best to be entertaining. While I removed the battery and coil, David basically removed the whole engine. It was all over in less than two hours, including several breaks for sigarettes and chocolate milk.

After removing the engine we gave the engine bay it's first proper cleaning in years, and I must say it's amazingly good for such an old, untouched car!

David's plan is to have the crossmember ready by wednesday and the new engine in place by friday. Some manufacturing is needed, as we'll swap the old steering box for a more modern steering rack. While he is working on the car I will source the remaining parts needed to complete the swap. If all goes according to plan, it should be ready to fire up again in a couple of weeks. If I can afford to, we will also do the suspension while we're at it.

But enough boring text, and onto the images:

Tbh, it's kind of a secret, as we are aiming for a LOT of steering lock. David didn't want me to tell anyone how, but I'll ask if I can send you some pics in a pm later :P

If you're going to ask others to share knowledge, you should as well, that's what this board is about

Now that's just annoying. When my mechanic (who runs a shop and is doing this for free on my car as a sponsorship deal) wants to try a prototype steering setup for drifting that he doesn't even know will work yet, I respect his wish to keep it quiet for now. Everything else I am willing to share, but this setup might go into production for drifting, so don't be an ass when I don't want to give away HIS trade secrets...!

Having said that, I did say I would ask him, and I'm guessing that once it's in place it's not a problem to share. It's just that the combination of parts used to achieve 60° of steering lock is a bit creative, and as he's running a workshop with focus on KE70 and AE86 drift cars, he doesn't want to share until it's finished. It is after all what he does for a living... If I was to do the conversion myself, it would obviously be different!

Completely understood from my stand point of needing to keep info secret since it's not your work. Good looking project so far.

Thanks, but I do see the point and will try my best to share as much as I can. But I have to respect the guy who is willing to put in hours and hours of free work on my car ;)

This ^ I can understand, .....although I highly doubt there are that many people running around throwing steering racks on 30 year old cars....not exactly some huge market
