Everywhere I read , people say the w58 trans will bolt right up to the 20r eng. Well I pulled a w58 trans from a 86 Supra today. When I got it home the bell housing are completely different .. The most obvious one is the starter bolts up to the top left side on the W58 instead of the bottom right side for the W50 an there not interchangeable either..
The rest of the trans looks about the same , same lenght and shifter position..

Is there a bell housing that will bolt up to the back of the 20R an to the front of the W58 ?

All the info I saw on the W58 was, that it came on the Supra starting from 82 all the way up to the 98 N/A model .. Also on the 86 Cressida But I don’t think I have ever seen a stick shift Cressida.. Any help you guys can give will be great .. Thanks

Simple, pull the W50 out of your car and swap the bellhousings. The supra has an M series engine and thus an M series bellhousing. You have a 20R with an R series bellhousing. The W58 will bolt right up to your bellhousing no problem. Biggest issues will be the location of the shifter after swap(you can swap the shifter towers/housings if needed) and the driveshaft length. I don't know if the W58 is longer. Some where in my foggy memory, I seem to recall that it is not.

the W50 and later W57/58 etc have a different gearbox to bellhousing bolt pattern. So you can not use a M Series to W50 bellhousing on a W58 box.

I think you would need a W58 bellhousing from a 81 to 84 Celica.
