I saw people talking about this in the blog section, so I thought I'd start a proper thread for it. I'm not talking about your first car (although they could be the same thing), but the car you learned to drive in.

For me, it was a 1966 Mercury Commuter station wagon. It was light yellow, had a 390 V-8, it was my mom's daily driver, and it was the first car my dad bought new. It was already about 13 years old by the time I learned to drive in it. At the time, it was just a big old wagon just like all the other big old wagons that everyone owned back then. But now I look back at it with a lot of fondness, because I spent a sizable portion of my childhood in the back of that car.

Other than the color, wheels and ride height, it looked just like this:

Learning with my dad? A 55 Chevy with a 350 and four on the floor (the one I have custody of now

With my mom? An automatic S10 Blazer; the car I ultimately took my driver's test in. Both cars were closer in driving experience to each other than one would imagine, or maybe not. But the Blazer was an absolute snore to drive, without having to shift, and wafting in relative silence. Til we got rear ended, anyway, with me in the drivers seat and an un-validated learner's permit

Awesome. When I was in high school, one of my best friends had a red 1960 Corvair 4-door with an auto as his first car. He later traded it for a 65 or 66 2-door with a floor-shift 4-speed manual. They were fun cars.

In the Netherlands the driving schools have their own cars to learn to drive in, I learned to drive in one of the yellow BMW 1-series on the right (too bad that only one week after I got my drivers license they bought their first BMW X1, I wanted to drive that car too :( ). And shortly after my drivers license I learned driving with an trailer in the BMW X5 with the trailer on the left (driving a car with trailer is a separate license in the Netherlands).

I learned in a stock A31 Nissan Cefiro that looked simliar to this, driving round the mountains of the Coromandel, way back before they were considered "cool" and every man and his dog had a "HeLlA fLuSH" one as a drift taxi.

Maybe that's where the Nissan fettish started...
