Went for a drive in the Corona in 5 inches of snow today....

Didn't even make it up my driveway, even with new snow tires

My 83 Cressida 5 speed LSD kicked ass in the snow, i remember back with Metrodome roof collapsed in Minneapolis we got 23 inches of snow, they plowed the roads obviously but there was still a good 8-9 inches everywhere. I plowed threw all of it, that LSD kicks ass in the snow.

Any chance of getting rid of the old diff and swapping in the one from my 83? Its sitting there with a rod knock, a perfectly working babied w58, and LSD.

I plan on living in a snowy type of environment for most my life and plan on driving this car for awhile so i need to figure out something.

If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be sweet.

Couple notes:

Saw that Toji swapped his mx63's LSD setup into his MX32, Would it be possible to do it to a Corona? they are related if I'm not mistaken.

My wagon has leaf springs in the back, never had a car with them. Would i need to replace them? Are strut towers required for the LSD setup? Can you even install the LSD rear end with the leaf springs?

I'm so confused

I guess if all else fails i can just take both rear ends out and do some head scratching.

Quickest easiest way to get an LSD into your wagon would be to look for a MkI Supra rear end. You would still need to take off the 4 link mounting points and have your leaf spring pads welded on. The MkI Supra did not come with an LSD... well, they came with an LSD, but they are rarer than hen's teeth. You can buy an aftermarket LSD to fit in as well. You might also want to look for an early 2WD hilux rear axle. It might be the same width as your rear axle. They are set up the same way(leaf springs) If it is the same length, axles can be swapped so you don't have to worry about mismatched lug patterns. The Hilux axles(up to 1985) are 7.5 and will accept any MX7 or MA6 LSD carrier. You will have to swap the ring and pinions, but that is about it. If the MX6 is live axle(can't remember correctly) then the whole thing may swap over. Again, you would have to have the leaf spring pads welded on for you. Hopefully, most of that makes sense..

Got 4 sand bags today, so 200 pounds in the back, still only 1 tire spins.

Should i put all the bags on the side of the tire that's spinning, or the tire that's not spinning?

I cant do any major diff mods until snows gone, got time to ponder what setup i will use.
