In Aus the two major sellers of utes - Ford (Falcon) and GM Holden (Commodore) now have the rear bed split from the cab. But they are still both essentially car based. But the "split" only happened in the last five years or so. BTW A ute with a tray-back in Oz is generally called a "Tonner" as they were traditionally rated for a one ton payload. Example:



An F250 would still be called a ute down here anyway.

OK, this is a transcription of a two page English to Romanji “dictionary” from Tuner Performance Reports, apparently written by Phi Phung and Naoto Negishi. They did not use dashes for long sounds in their translation. A double letter, a dash, and an “o” followed by a “u” are are three ways to get long vowel sounds, but each are typed differently… I don’t know what dialect or regional accent that Phung and Negishi learned, mine is apparently Nagoya/Fukuoka, which probably influences my corrections. My corrections are in parenthesis.

I really like “Racing Words” by Debora Corsini, but it covers seven languages, is 747 pages, and all of the Japanese is in Kanji, Hirigana, and Katakana. I work much better in Romangi (English letter spelling of Japanese pronunciation). I will not be transcribing that book any time soon.

Brett, better also add the term "Tilly" here too. The 11 utes in my collection have all had that nickname from the original owners!
