Been a while since I've posted but would like to share photos/progress with our first manual swap.

I am currently working with my fiance on his mx73 manual swap. We are actually looking for a 5mge flywheel at the moment. Worse case scenario, buying it on eBay. I've called many auto wrecking companies but they have non available. Craigslist, none. Junk yards, none. Hoping that posting on forums will help. My goal is to be active on the forums so I can provide progress and updates.

A friend of mine provided me a 7mgte flywheel and he told me that he's done x7 manual swaps with it many times so I made an assumption that it would be possible. I bought a 7mgte clutch kit and all the necessary bolts/nuts. BIG ISSUE was that the throw out bearing sleave/collar for a w58 is too small for the 7mgte clutch. It came with a bearing but it was LARGER! It was meant for a R154 not a w58! We stopped it there, so now we are sticking with Plan B which was suppose to be PLAN A from the get go.

I will post updates/progress.

Thanks for looking!

Yup, 5 and 7M flywheels are interchangeable. You should be good to go, unless you got a 7MGTE flywheel as the R154 flywheel is different. Look for a 7MGE flywheel instead, should be very easy to find in the junkyards. Heck, you can probably buy an entire 5 speed MkIII supra for the price of a new flywheel. Good luck with the swap. A 5 speed really livens those cars up!!!

OkieRA29, buzzbomer, terolla, thank you guys for the information along with the forum sites. I will be meeting with a guy from jzxproject on Sunday for the 7mge flywheel. He's selling it for $50. Not bad. I've posted photos/updates below.[/color]

UPDATES/PROGRESS WITH PHOTOS

Aftermarket pos alarm wires taken out, clutch put in. Now I am waiting on the 7mge flywheel which I will receive on Sunday then the swap continues...

Which driveshaft are you using? The front half of a MKIII Supra W58 Driveshaft is ideal for a Cressida 5 speed conversion. Just curious, if you guys have the correct one.

Good luck!

I got a question, what kind of clutch and brake pedals do you use on this type of swap? Would it be an MKII or MKIII Supra? Will it need any modifications?

list of ingredients needed for a 5 speed swapped MX73
MkIII Supra W58 and front half of driveshaft.
MkII Supra clutch pedal and brake pedal
MkII Supra Clutch master cylinder.
You can also use AE85/6/8 pedals from what I have heard.

The MkII clutch pedals will need some 'adjustment' where the top bolts into the car. It is hard for me to explain, but when you hold the clutch pedal in the dash, you will see what I mean. Supposedly, the AE8x pedals require no adjustment and are just a drop in fit. You can buy a 5M flywheel, but just grab the flywheel off the MkIII Supra you get the W58 from.

Saw this on jzxp. I used hachi roku pedals and sliced off the piece of brake pedal on the left side. Also i heated and bent the hachi clutch pedal forward a hare.

That's good news. Keep us updated with any other mods and pics of course. I'll be sure to show your post to my girl and hopefully she can be somewhat inspired to help me with my cars, although I highly doubt it, lol. Good luck.
