Hi,

Will a 5 speed gearbox/transmission from a 1.4 liter 323 rwd 1981 stationwagon fit on a 1.3 liter 1300 from 1971? What clutch to use? both engines are non-rotary.

Regards

I'm pretty sure the TC and UC are 100% interchangable.

hi,

and thanks for your quick reply.

the engines (i have both) looks verry similar, but there might be different clutches. i have a 1300 engine and a 4 speed gearbox in my 1971 coupe now. the engine works fine, but the revs are verry high, so a 5 speed gearbox might do the trick. i was/am also thinking about changeing the engine for the 1981 1,4liter, but i am not sure about the condition, allthow it turns easyly.

regards

The 5 speed will fit fine but you will need to convert from a cable to a hydraulic set up and from memory a shorter tail shaft.

If you can find one the 1500 engine is way more torquey and fuel efficient than the 1300 or 1400.

A 32/36 webber and a set of extractors and it will boogie nice.

hi,

i was aware of the shorter tail shaft, but did not think of cable / hydraulic clutch. seems like a little more work than i expected. is there room to fit a hydraulic clutch system without to much hassel. just take parts from a 323?

the engine revs in just over 4000 when driving in 80 km/h. can i change the rear axel for better ratio? is there any rear axels that are exchangeable?

it is rather difficult to find parts for old mazda's in norway, mostly because they rusted away in 10 years.

will a weber 32/36 be a good swap on the 1300 engine?
