Surely this topic is just fishing for a response. You would have to be living under a rock for the last 5 years to think that any rx3 is not worth the effort!
Absolutely! I guess I should have stated "should it be saved as a whole car or parted out". My inbox is stuffed with parts requests and I'm thinking I could make $2000-$3000 parting the car. The parts would be shipped to Australia because the demand is so high and they are willing to pay the most. On the other hand, it would be a shame to part out an original car that was so complete and in stock condition. Since the car is located in the U.S. the demand, while good, is not great like it is in Australia. The passion for these cars in the U.S. can't be matched by the passion witnessed by the folks from down under (Both Australia and New Zealand).
The car needs bodywork and that is going to depress the price for an American buyer especially a buyer from the west coast or south. Rust is a bogyman no one wants to deal with. In other parts of the world, rust is a way of life and is dealt with without a lot concern.
I was just surprised to see the car in the junk yard but can understand why it was there. This is a desert and things don't rust. A car with rust is automatically junked. This car was originally from Missouri (lady owned) where apparently salt is used on the roads. The car has been in Nevada since the early 1980s so the damage was done years ago while the car was in the central U.S. The car also hasn't run since the early 1980s!
The great thing about this car is you would not have to be involved in a never ending parts search, it has all the right stuff (complete, rare options and never modified). It needs fenders and a drivers door and a good bodyman.
I actually would like to see the car shipped to Australia where it could be treated to a full on restoration of which only the Aussies seem to do best.
Cheers!
