Good work in tracking down the mirrors. $1200 ouch ! Thats some serious money. I dont blame you using the Toyota ones, $350 is more reasonable.

Too be honest with you, I have 2 pet hates on old mazda's

1. Fender mirrors, no matter how many times I see them I dont like 'em ! Much prefer the chrome door mirrors.... dont care what anyone says
2. Tea cup tail lights, The original round ones like you have are the pick of the bunch for me, even over "Hex" savanna lights.

Last of all please dont refer to your car as "just a 818 or 808", your've done a great job building it and would put many so called genuine cars to shame. As long as you like it and get a kick from driving it, thats all that matters. I'd leave it as it is with Rx3 gear. Keep up the good work.

Luckily I don't have an interest in RX-3 at the moment.. the parts are really expensive! Someone from down under bought a pair of GS II Coupe fender mirrors last year from me for $500+

I have a set of genuine front guard mirrors for my wagon but I was always intending on putting them on the 1300. I might use them instead on the wagon and purchase a set of these for the 1300.

......I love fender mirrors, on the right car when going for a JDM-ish look, I'm more a fan of the older metal style ones, not so much the plastic ones on the later cars though.

And t-cups are no.1 out of all I reckon......but I have to agree the regular round lights are a welcome change compared to fake Hex lights these days.



I don't think they will suit a 1300, you need the older style round metal ones.

jdmrx2....I'll be interested to see how they look on your coupe.

nah... I kinda hate the old round chrome ones to be honest! Too grandpa-ish for me. The 1300 will (one day) look like a race car hence the more stylish later mirrors.

series 1 rx3 coupes came with both, on the lower based models you had the option of metal fender mirrors, models such as savannas came with the plastic (better looking) mirrors, there was also 2 versions of the plastic mirrors, early (fairly sure only series 1 cars) similar looking to the ones ive got sleek, round with chrome cups and late (series 2 and 3) fat squarish and no chrome.

out of all the tail lights the candy are my favorite,

Beware, ill be going for a JDM-ish look. ive recently bought back my old wheels they are Work Ewing mesh, 15x6.5 all round, not sure on the offset, but once i work it out if they fit i was thinking about flipping the center on the rears for a tad more dish,

so far im set on painting the Centers same as the car, and the outter lips in fluro green, combined with the guard mirrors will give me that JDM look im after,

Well, I thought long and hard about it, and ive decided i WILL be sticking with the White/Green combo,

As a test I went down to bunnings, bought some pressure pack, painted a wheel and chucked in on the car,

Most people wont like it but oh well, the cars only got to impress one person,

wheels will be going to the painters next week after i sand blast them


yes i know there some of the noisyest/shitest photos taken ever.

Haven’t updated in a while, cant be bothered/ no cash to do any sweet moves... but the new garage is pretty much finished so thought id show some extremely dodgy build pics of that.

So we had this area down the side of the house that was unused, overgrown and just down right fucked, everything that wasn’t needed got chucked there, until I started the car build and needed a garage to house the refurbished street/now dormant garage machine,

Now for something that seems as simple as building a few walls, roof and concrete this was the hardest build ever, plans were fucked up at least 10 times, council approvals multiple times as planer fucked shit up, cross overs having to be x amount away from house down the street and around the corner... gas lines moved, storm water shit, house water pipes breaking from nob heads on dingos not listening etc,
Then after plans were finilized FINALLY we end up with 3 pallets of bricks left over as yup u guessed it, planner came back with shit wrong.. anywho more pics,

Total build so far has taken well over a year. With all the fucking around and lack of motivation. Ive also just started building fritzles in my spare time, and also started on fritzle’s extension for more storage which is roughly 2m wide by 3m long, garage size is 10ish long 3.5 wide at the opening, and wide enough at the back for the car to be sideways on my gojacks and still get a through the door piece of piss.. ive now got no excuses to work on the car or drive it, but still manage to find some

Also how friggen good is an epoxy painted floor! Drop something and you can find it because they reflect a little light. Its my biggest regret that i didn't paint my floor like that when i first moved in - now with the clutter its impossible.

So many places i've looked at would be lucky if they had a asbestos sheet crap-shack to park a morris minor inside - these are marketed as "garages" by most real estate agents lol.

Despite the headaches/expense a good garage build is a bloody good improvement to make to your property. Plus i think its very motivating to have a nice work space. I'd kill to have a plasma and insulation in my shed (just a colorbond shed but its 16mx7m - freezing in winter but you pass out from the heat in summer. I can see you'll be very happy in your "man-cave".

Just a tip - don't sweat it building shelves. Just ring around and keep an eye on ebay for pallet racking. Even if its damaged (easy to get damaged end pieces and cut them down to fit your roof height). You can also make a work bench outta the stuff. First lot of shelves i built outta structural pine and after that i just bought racking - easier and cheaper!

haven’t posted anything in a fair while, been real busy, changed jobs, moved house, blah blah, so while the car was out the other day managed to snap some pictures and played around with an iphone app i DL'd. i think they came out pretty cool so thought id share,
i also purchased a Hilux diff off one of my mates that was in an escort, came with s2 rx7 discs and caliper’s which was a bonus, no center but for a slab of drapht I wasn’t complaining
I’m hoping by summer ill have some new shoes for the old girl and the dif in, as i wouldn’t mind taking it down the strip see how it goes before i head overseas for a few years,

love it dude, building your dream car and its home, i'm currently doing the same, I find your pictures and story great insipiration, for me it all helps. people sharing the do's and donts is just priceless info for all JDM oldschoolers, keep it all coming!

oh while i'm here... they were better when they were rarely seen as now they are a bit of a trend down my way, but i like that guard mirrors only suit some peoples taste, the reason most of us may be here on the JNC forum and not some other rotary page, makes for variety. I have the older chrome teardrop rx3 ones ready to go on my car but these levin ones really do look nice ahhhhhh!!! good to see them on a car to help me decide, now do i stop the painter from drilling holes just yet.. gulp!

Seeing as I have more fun modding and changing things that work perfectly fine than actually driving the car I couldn't help myself and purchased another motor. The jport is sitting in the shed with unsure plans I'll either sell or store for the next project when I return from OS in a year or two.  
So after a few months or piss farting around, swearing and gathering odds and ends the car is now ready to be tuned.. I'm extremely  my happy with how it's all turned out. I built the 3 inch turboback  exhaust intercooler piping(first time tigging for cooler and miged maybe twice b4 attempting this)  repainted anything that needed painting including motor etc which when I have time ill do a b4 after build photos and had a mate do an over rad intercooler for me as I was adamant that I didn't want 1 whole cut as I think it looks tacky and taped any sensors I needed.

Power wise I'm not sure yet as waiting on the tuner to get on dyno but I'm hoping for 250rwkw which he seems to think ill do pretty easy.  
To add to the sleeper look I've got myself a sunvisor and roofracks I think it works pretty well and is alittle different to what you normally see with old mazdas these days. Anyway here's a few pics to show you how it's currently looking, and I'll update in a few weeks with power figures
