I'm planning to do a photoshoot of my '73 Datsun 510 soon. It is period correct. I'm interested in doing a similarly period correct photoshoot of it. I want people to see the photos and think they were taken in the '70's. I'm looking for examples of photos of J-tin from the '70's to get a flavor of the photo look from this era. I'm very interested in photos with the car owner in them. I have a vision of a Han (F&F Tokyo Drift) or Bunta (Initial D) type character leaning against the car, cigarette in hand, looking cool. Anyone know of any resources for photos from this era, a thread on JNC, or maybe something in your collection you can share?

Here is an example of something I stumbled on. Photo is modern. I'm looking for something like this except from the '70's.
Image

James Dean is another character that comes to mind, but I'm pretty sure he never drove a Datsun...
Image

Funny thing, I'm 32 years old and I've never smoked. But I'm compelled to fake it just to make this photoshoot look period correct.

Thanks!

First off, Welcome.

Find someone to wear a turtle neck with a polyester / plaid suit and you should be good.

Here's some that my roommate and I did. Hope it helps.
I don't feel like resizing them, so I've put up the links.

Man, where did you guys get those leisure suits/jackets?

You can't be afraid to go into the women's section at the thrift stores, haha.
The two of us with afros found our whole outfits in there, although I don't know where Joel (the tallest guy) found his stuff, I know it was the guy's section somewhere.
You gotta mix and match. If I recall, my shirt is actually a pajama top.

My get-up is all men's (I'm the tall one Yuri mentioned). Went to about 6 or so thrift stores in the weeks before a 70s-themed party and ended up getting the jacket and pants from the Good Will closest to home. Also found Yuri's shoes there. For some reason I already owned the light blue polyester shirt.

Some of those items will have to make a comeback once we get the fleet fully functional.

Looking forward to seeing your shoot James. One thing to try to find is a location where there are other random old vehicles around--that way it looks more like a natural shot, not so staged. (Fortunately for us we have a neighbor with a white 70s truck that shows up in the background of our alley shots, as seen in the bottom link in Yuri's reply.) :tu:

Groovy!

Hey, you guys are from Long Beach... :tu:

Maybe for the next JCCS everyone entering a car should dress in appropriate period correct clothes as year of their car!

Those ones look pretty cool! but you can still tell it's modern somehow....it's weird lol. I think if you want true nostalgic look (and really want to BE nostalgic in the process), you just gotta go film in an old camera. Old polaroid cameras on a really sunny day, I remember finding a lot of those old photos from when i was a kid, and they really evoke that classic vibe.

I LOVE this. Wish I could join you guys. Stationwagonguy and I will probably have to do this sometime :tu: 8)

You definitely need to use film. Polaroid or 35mm.

Here are some scans of a '71 (?) Corolla brochure.
