Rear axle leak

So, I have an 80 corolla with a stock rear end. The seal on the passenger side is leaking and geting on the brakes, which is causing a failed safety.

My question is, is there an additivive or different oil I can use in the rear end to limit/stop the leak without replacing the seal? I would prefer to just milk the rear end until I do my complete overhaul of the car.

If not, how hard is it to replace a rear axle seal?

Nope. You need to just replace the seal.
it's a $2-$3 seal.

I've seen additives in parts stores that you add to any fluid and it's supposed to swell up rubber. Don't remember the name. It may make the leak worse but it's worth a shot. Replacing the seal isn't a tough job.

Honestly. c'mon. what gives? Just fix the thing. you have an oil leak. fix it right and do it right the first time. if you can do it, pay someone to do it for you. if you cant pay for it, ride the bus and get a bicycle. c'mon....

Well, I did fix it. Turned out pretty easy and the slide hammer wasn't even needed. I had never attempted something like this before so there was some fear.

Plus, it's a project car and I didn't want to start something that would ruin all my progress that has gotten to the point of being driveable

Thats what I was afraid of. Also, didn't want to spend alot of money on a part that I will replace when I blow up the motor, engine or rear end.

Also cleaned the breather on the diff. Think that is what caused the leaky seal.
